  1. 1. Turbulence measurements in fiber suspension flows : experimental methods and results

    Author : Monika Carina Fällman; Fritz Bark; Daniel Söderberg; Fredrik Lundell; Thomas Wikström; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fluid; flow; turbulent; turbulence; paper; pulp; fiber; fibre; suspension; two-phase; experimental; conductivity; micro-probes; passive scalar; ultrasonic; Doppler shift; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : Turbulent mixing is present in many pulp and paper processes. It is a particularly important factor in the design and improvements of the paper machine headbox, influencing the final paper structure. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Influence of Atmospheric Turbulence on Barrier Sound Reduction

    Author : Jens Forssén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; traffic noise; barrier; measurements; turbulence; scattering cross-section; substitute sources; outdoor sound propagation; parabolic equation method; random media; numerical modelling;

    Abstract : Numerical modelling and measurements are used for studying the reduced performance of a noise barrier, caused by a turbulent atmosphere. The turbulence scatters the sound, which leads to an increased noise level in the acoustic shadow region behind the barrier. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optical Turbulence Characterization for Ground-Based Astronomy

    Author : Susanna Hagelin; Anna Rutgersson; Elena Masciadri; Valentina Zitelli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; site testing; atmospheric effects; turbulence; optical turbulence; applied meteorology; mesoscale models; Meteorology; Meteorologi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; Meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Abstract : The optical turbulence, which creates perturbations of the wavefronts coming from the stars, is caused by small-scale fluctuations in the index of refraction of the atmosphere and is a problem for astronomers because it limits the maximum resolution of the ground-based telescopes. One way of identifying the best sites to build astronomical observatories, where the influence of the optical turbulence is as small as possible, is to use the standard meteorological parameters to get a first idea of the potential of a site. 4. 4. On Particle Transport and Turbulence Modification in Air-Particle Flows

    Author : Camilla Ljus; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; turbulent dispersion; hot film probe; turbulence measurements; turbulence modification; particle transport; two-fluid model;

    Abstract : The transport of particles by airflow was studied for two different flow cases, the transport of pulp fibres in a mat-forming process and the transport of pulp fibres and spherical particles in a horizontal pipe. The transport of pulp fibres in the mat-forming process is first considered. READ MORE

  5. 5. Applications of Laser Based Measurements to Combustion Related Fluid Dynamics

    Author : Jens Klingmann; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; applied thermodynamics; Thermal engineering; flame speed.; combustion; turbulence; Laser based measurements; laser Doppler anemometry; Termisk teknik; termodynamik;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with laser based techniques for the measurement of fluid dynamical properties and their application to combusting flowfields or flowfields related to combustion. As an introduction, the theory of turbulent flows and combustion is shortly presented. An overview of laser based measuring techniques is given. READ MORE
