  1. 6. Multi-Level Lossless Phase Modulation in Liquid Crystals for High-Speed Spatial Light Modulators

    Author : David Engström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phase measurements; polarization; phase modulation; beam steering; Spatial light modulators; diffractive optics; ferroelectric liquid crystals;

    Abstract : The spatial light modulator (SLM) is a compact device that enables highly precise control of light propagation with low drive voltages and no moving parts. By imposing a certain phase modulation onto the incident lightwave, functions such as multi-beam steering, beam shaping, and air turbulence corrections can be achieved in realtime. READ MORE

  2. 7. Attenuation of boundary layer disturbances by means of streamwise vortices

    Author : Sohrab Sattarzadeh Shirvan; Jens H. M. Fransson; Valery Chernoray; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layer stability; Tollmien-Schlichting waves; oblique waves; transition to turbulence; streamwise vortices; miniature vortex generators; instability control; drag reduction;

    Abstract : The stability of the boundary layer developed on a flat plate is studied in the presence of streamwise streaks where disturbances of different types are introduced in the wall-bounded shear layer. The experimental investigations are aimed at flow control by means of passively damping the energy growth of the disturbances in the streaky boundary layer and furthermore delay the onset of the transition in the streamwise direction. 3. 8. Study of generation, growth and breakdown of streamwise streaks in a Blasius boundary layer

    Author : Luca Brandt; KTH; []
    Keywords : Fluid mechanics; laminar-turbulent transition; boundary layer flow; transient growth; streamwise streaks; lift-up effect; receptivity; free-stream turbulence; streak instability; secondary instability; Direct Numerical Simulation.;

    Abstract : Transition from laminar to turbulent flow has beentraditionally studied in terms of exponentially growingeigensolutions to the linearized disturbance equations.However, experimental findings show that transition may occuralso for parameters combinations such that these eigensolutionsare damped. 4. 9. Signal Modeling and Detection in Nephrologic and Cardiac Applications

    Author : Kristian Solem; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Heart rate turbulence HRT ; Heart rate variability HRV ; Electrocardiogram ECG ; Pulse oximetry.; Biomedical signal processing; Intradialytic hypotension; Hemodialysis; Ectopic beats;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis is comprised of five parts in the field of biomedical signal processing with focus on methods for use in hemodialysis as well as in cardiac applications. The problem of predicting hypotension is the main concern in the parts were data from patients undergoing hemodialysis are used. READ MORE

  5. 10. Advances in droplet evaporation

    Author : Giandomenico Lupo; Christophe Duwig; Sébastien Tanguy; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Droplet evaporation (and condensation) is one of the most common instances of multiphase flow with phase change, encountered in nature as well as in technical applications. Examples include falling rain drops, fogs and mists, aerosol applications like electronic cigarettes and inhalation drug delivery, and engineering applications like spray combustion, spray wet scrubbing or gas absorption, spray drying, flame spray pyrolysis.
