  1. 1. Planing wood with twist

    Author : Ann Axelsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []

    Abstract : About half the total volume of sawlogs end up as sawn timber. The rest is lostdue to drying shrinkage or is turned into byproducts like wood chips, sawdustand shavings. As the raw material is a large expense for a sawmill, it is important to fully utilize the logs. READ MORE

  2. 2. Plasmonics with a Twist

    Author : Robin Ogier; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : plasmonic nanostructures; colloidal lithography; particle spinning; optical tweezers; nanofabrication; nanoparticles; chirality;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the exploration of interactions between circularly polarized light and plasmonic nanostructures, and nanoparticles. Polarization is an integral part of light and has a wealth of applications in the modern world. READ MORE

    Author : Johann Georg Meier; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : antiferroelectric liquid crystals; liquid crystals; twist grain boundary phase;

    Abstract : .... READ MORE

  4. 4. Moisture-induced distortion in timber structures - examples based on partition walls

    Author : Magnus Bäckström; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; gypsum wallboard; spiral grain angle; restraint; Norway spruce; Connection; twist; spring;

    Abstract : The shape of timber changes due to variations in moisture content (MC). In Scandinavia, producers normally dry timber to an MC of 18%. However, after the studs are built into the wall structure, for example, they may become distorted as a result of further drying in the structure. The final MC in a heated building in Scandinavia is about 8%. READ MORE

  5. 5. Transcriptional and Epigenetic Regulation of Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition

    Author : E-Jean Tan; Aristidis Moustakas; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Geert Berx; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGFβ; EMT; HMGA2; Snail; Twist; E-cadherin; epigenetics; invasion; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : The transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) is a cytokine that regulates a plethora of cellular processes such as cell proliferation, differentiation, migration and apoptosis. TGFβ signals via serine/threonine kinase receptors and activates the Smads to regulate gene expression. READ MORE
