  1. 1. Three Dimensional Determinations of Inclusions in Ferroalloys and Steel Samples

    Author : Yanyan Bi; Andrey Karasev; Chris Pistorius; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Three dimensional; Ferroalloy; Inclusion; Spinel inclusion; T hermodynamic calculation; REM clusters; Formation mechanism; Statistical analysis; Maximum size;

    Abstract : As the requirements on material properties increase, there has been a demand on an additional knowledge on the effect of impurities in the ferroalloyson the steel cleanness. Thus, the number, morphology, size and composition of inclusions in sixdifferent ferroalloys (FeTi, FeNb, FeSi,SiMn, LC and HC FeCr) were investigatedin this study. READ MORE

  2. 2. Quiescent cancer cells : Three-dimensional cell models for evaluation of new therapeutics

    Author : Frida Ek; Mårten Fryknäs; Malin Jarvius; Rolf Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; cancer cell quiescence; dormancy; three-dimensional; multicellular tumor spheroids; model development; cancer pharmacology; mitochondria; OXPHOS; colorectal carcinoma; hepatocellular carcinoma; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Inadequate metabolic conditions in solid tumors lead to the formation of quiescent cancer cells that are suspended in a transient cell cycle arrest. When conditions change, quiescent cancer cells can re-enter the cell cycle and cause recurrence. READ MORE

  3. 3. Three-dimensional structured carbon foam : synthesis and applications

    Author : Ngoc Tung Pham; Jyri-Pekka Mikkola; Krisztian Kordas; William Siljebo; Dmitry Yu. Murzin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon foam; melamine foam; absorbent; water purification; heterogeneous catalyst; catalyst support; SpinChem®; rotating bed reactor; water electrolysis; energy conversion;

    Abstract : Recently, due to the unique properties and structures such as large geometric surface area, electrical conductivity and light weight, 3D structured carbon materials have been attracting extensive attention from scientists. Moreover, the materials, which can provide well-defined pathways for reactants to easily access active sites, are extremely useful for energy conversion as well as environmental and catalysis applications. 4. 4. Stability and Receptivity of Three-Dimensional Boundary Layers

    Author : David Tempelmann; Dan Henningson; Stefan Hein; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Receptivity; stability; optimal growth; three-dimensional boundary layers; parabolised stability equations; adjoint PSE; crossflow instability; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : The stability and the receptivity of three-dimensional flat plate boundary layers is studied employing parabolised stability equations. These allow for computationally efficient parametric studies. Two different sets of equations are used. READ MORE

  5. 5. Three-dimensional ultrasound studies of normal and abnormal ovaries

    Author : Ligita Jokubkiene; gynekologisk och prenatal ultraljudsdiagnostik Obstetrisk; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ovary; ovarian follicle; ovarian neoplasms; ultrasonography; three-dimensional imaging; Doppler ultrasound imaging; vascular morphology;

    Abstract : The aims of this work were: 1) to estimate the number of follicles, ovarian volume and power Doppler vascular indices and their changes with age using three-dimensional (3D) transvaginal grey-scale and power Doppler ultrasound in asymptomatic women of fertile age either with natural menstrual cycles or using combined oral contraceptives, and 2) to determine whether tumour vascularity, assessed by 3D power Doppler ultrasound, can help discriminate between benign and malignant ovarian tumours. A group of 303 gynaecologically asymptomatic women, aged 20–39 years with normal menstrual cycles (NMC) and another group of 213 women aged 20–39 years using combined oral contraceptives (COC) were examined using two-dimensional (2D) and 3D transvaginal ultrasound once between cycle day 4 and 8.
