  1. 1. Fractal superconducting resonators for the interrogation of two-level systems

    Author : Sebastian Erik de Graaf; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cooper-pair box; decoherence; electron spin resonance; two-level systems; atomic force microscopy; quasiparticles; near-field scanning microwave microscopy; Superconducting resonators; circuit quantum electrodynamics;

    Abstract : In this thesis we use high-Q superconducting thin-film microwave resonators to interact with several types of quantum mechanical two-level systems. Such a resonator is used as the central building block in a cryogenic near-field scanning microwave microscope (NSMM) to reach a completely new regime of NSMM operation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Two-Level Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm for Risk-Based Life Cycle Cost Analysis

    Author : Yamur K. Al-Douri; Uday Kumar; Jan Lundberg; Hussan Hamodi; Ahmed Al-Dubai; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Artificial intelligence AI ; Life cycle cost LCC ; Machine learning ML ; Multi-objective genetic algorithm MOGA ; Risk-based life cycle cost LCC ; Tunnel fans; Two-level system; Operation and Maintenance Engineering; Drift och underhållsteknik;

    Abstract : Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the fields in science and engineering and encompasses a wide variety of subfields, ranging from general areas (learning and perception) to specific topics, such as mathematical theorems. AI and, specifically, multi-objective genetic algorithms (MOGAs) for risk-based life cycle cost (LCC) analysis should be performed to estimate the optimal replacement time of tunnel fan systems, with a view towards reducing the ownership cost and the risk cost and increasing company profitability from an economic point of view. 3. 3. Energy Efficiency Comparison Between Two-level and Multilevel Inverters for Electric Vehicle Applications

    Author : Oskar Josefsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electric Vehicle EV ; Drive Cycle; Plug-in Electric Vehicle PEV ; Multilevel Inverter MLI ; Two-level Inverter TLI ; Efficiency.; Integrated Charger;

    Abstract : In order to contribute to the development of energy and cost efficient electric vehicles, a thorough analysis of two different electric converter topologies is performed, considering different drive cycles and different control strategies. In the electric vehicles available on the market today, a high voltage (200−400 V ) battery pack composed of several battery modules is connected to one or more inverters which create AC voltages to the electric propulsion machines. 4. 4. Superinductance and fluctuating two-level systems: Loss and noise in disordered and non-disordered superconducting quantum devices

    Author : David Niepce; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Disordered Superconductors; Nanowire; Superinductor; Quantum information; Superconducting circuits; Superinductance; TLS; Two-level Systems;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we first demonstrate that a disordered superconductor with high kinetic inductance can realise a microwave low-loss, non-dissipative circuit element with impedance greater than the quantum resistance. This element, known as a superinductor, can suppress the fluctuations of charge in a quantum circuit. READ MORE
