    Abstract : Pharmacometric modelling is widely used in many aspects related to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), for instance in the anti-diabetes drug development, and in quantifying the disease progression of T2DM.The aim of this thesis were to improve the design of early phase anti-diabetes drug development studies with the focus on the power to identify mechanism of drug action (MoA), and to characterize and quantify the progression from prediabetes to overt diabetes, both the natural progression and the progression with diet and exercise interventions, using pharmacometrics modelling. 2. 2. Genetic interaction between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

    Author : Haiyan Li; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; IDDM2.; Insulin gene VNTR; HLA; IDDM1; mixed type 1 2; Mixed type 1 type 2 diabetes families; LADA; GADabs; Autoantibodies against GAD65; Type 1 diabetes; Type 2 diabetes; diabetology; secreting systems; sekretion; diabetologi; Endokrinologi;

    Abstract : There are two major types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Similarly characterized by hyperglycaemia and long term micro- and macrovascular complications, type 1 and type 2 diabetes have different underlying pathophysiologic processes. In Scandinavia, type 1 diabetes is common; type 2 diabetes accounts for 85% of all cases with diabetes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Search for MODY and Type 2 diabetes genes

    Author : Markku Lehto; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2 diabetes; mutation; MODY; mitochondrial DNA; MIDD; insulin deficiency; hepatocyte nuclear factor; Gestational diabetes; glucokinase; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Diabetes is a heterogeneous disease influenced by both environmental and genetic factors. Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is considered as a subform of Type 2 diabetes, which is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion and expressed at childhood or early adult life. 4. 4. Integrating multi-omics for type 2 diabetes : Data science and big data towards personalized medicine

    Author : Klev Diamanti; Jan Komorowski; Claes Wadelius; Manfred Grabherr; Peter Spégel; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex metabolic disease characterized by multi-tissue insulin resistance and failure of the pancreatic β-cells to secrete sufficient amounts of insulin. Cells recruit transcription factors (TF) to specific genomic loci to regulate gene expression that consequently affects the protein and metabolite abundancies. READ MORE

  5. 5. Prevention of type 2 diabetes : modeling the cost-effectiveness of diabetes prevention

    Author : Anne Neumann; Lars Lindholm; Katarina Steen Carlsson; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Background: Diabetes is a common and costly disease that is expected to continue even to grow in prevalence and health expenditures over the coming decades. Type 2 diabetes is the most common diabetes type and is characterized by insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency. READ MORE
