    Abstract : Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) is a mouse model for rheumatoid arthritis, in which autoimmunity is induced by immunization with type II collagen (CII), a cartilage-specific protein. In the present work, alpha/beta T cells were shown to be required for CIA and for the production of anti-CII IgG antibodies, whereas gamma/delta T cells were neither necessary nor sufficient for development of CIA. 5. 20. AMP-activated protein kinase : The connection between exercise and type II diabetes

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology

    Author : Brian R Barnes; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Skeletal muscle; glucose transport; AMP-activated protein kinase; AMPK gamma 3 exercise; Type 2 diabetes; insulin resistance; metabolism;

    Abstract : Skeletal muscle insulin resistance is a hallmark feature of Type 2 diabetes. Physical exercise/muscle contraction elicits an insulin-independent increase in glucose transport and perturbation of this pathway can bypass defective insulin signaling. READ MORE
