  3. 18. T cells in Autoimmunity: studies on murine type II collagen-induced arthritis

    Author : Alexandre Corthay; Immunologi; []

    Abstract : Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) is a mouse model for rheumatoid arthritis, in which autoimmunity is induced by immunization with type II collagen (CII), a cartilage-specific protein. In the present work, alpha/beta T cells were shown to be required for CIA and for the production of anti-CII IgG antibodies, whereas gamma/delta T cells were neither necessary nor sufficient for development of CIA. 4. 19. AMP-activated protein kinase : the connection between exercise and type II diabetes

    Author : Brian R Barnes; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Skeletal muscle; glucose transport; AMP-activated protein kinase; AMPK gamma 3 exercise; Type 2 diabetes; insulin resistance; metabolism;

    Abstract : Skeletal muscle insulin resistance is a hallmark feature of Type 2 diabetes. Physical exercise/muscle contraction elicits an insulin-independent increase in glucose transport and perturbation of this pathway can bypass defective insulin signaling. READ MORE

  5. 20. The role of anti-collagen type II antibodies in the pathogenesis and prognosis of rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Vivek Anand Manivel; Johan Rönnelid; Arne Egesten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; Anti-collagen type II antibodies; HLADRB1*; Granulocytes; prognosis; ;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) which affects 0.5-1% of the world population and is characterised by joint erosions and presence of the autoantibodies anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA) and rheumatoid factor. READ MORE
