  1. 36. Posttranslational modification of collagen type II : effects on antigen-specific T-cell tolerance and autoreactivity in collagen-induced arthritis

    Author : Patrick Merky; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common chronic inflammatory disease affecting peripheral joints in approximately 1% of the world population. Immunization of susceptible strains with CII, leads to development of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), an animal model for RA. READ MORE

  2. 37. Fabrication and characterization of periodically poled KTB and RB-doped KTB for applications in the visible and UV

    Author : Shunhua Wang; Fredrik Laurell; Peter Smith; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nonlinear optics; second-harmonic generation; quasi-phasematching; type-I QPM SHG; type-II QPM SHG; KTP; RKTP; periodic electric-field poling; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the fabrication and the characterization of periodically-poled crystals for use in lasers to generate visible and UV radiation by second-harmonic generation (SHG) through quasi-phasematching (QPM). Such lasers are of practical importance in many applications like high-density optical storage, biomedical instrumentation, colour printing, and for laser displays. READ MORE

  3. 38. Biologically Interesting Compounds from Natural Sources

    Author : Veronica de la Parra; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytotoxicity; Natural products; terpenoids; vasorelaxant activity; allylmercaptane; diabetes mellitus type II; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Cacalia decomposita; GPR40 receptor; TRP channel;

    Abstract : Natural products have traditionally played a major role in the drug discovery process. Besides constituting extremely popular drugs in the market, and an ever-increasing source of interesting and novel chemical structures, they have also aided the characterization of many a pharmacological target. 4. 39. Palladium(0)-Catalysed Carbonylative Multicomponent Reactions : Synthesis of Heterocycles and the Application of Quinolinyl Pyrimidines as Enzyme Inhibitors

    Author : Linda Åkerbladh; Mats Larhed; Luke Odell; Anders Karlén; Lise-Lotte Gundersen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Palladium catalysis; Carbonylation; Multicomponent reactions; Domino reactions; Heterocycles; 4-Quinolones; 2-Aminoquinazolinones; Benzoxazinones; N-Acylguanidines; Type II NADH dehydrogenase; NDH-2;

    Abstract : Palladium-catalysed carbonylative multicomponent reactions have proven useful for the synthesis of structurally diverse compounds. Carbon monoxide serves as an atom-efficient, one-carbon building block, which allows for further structural elaboration of the carbonyl compound. READ MORE

  5. 40. Novel Materials and Technologies for IR Optoelectronic Applications

    Author : Yuxin Song; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; GaSbBi; dilute bismide; InAs GaSb type-II superlattice; metamorphic; InSbBi; alloy graded buffer; threading dislocation; infrared; molecular beam epitaxy;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on novel III-V materials (InAs/GaSb type-II superlattices, T2SL, and dilute bismides) and metamorphic growth techniques for infrared optoelectronics all of which may find wide spread applications in telecommunication, energy harvesting and saving, sensing and imaging. Mid-wavelength infrared (MWIR) and long-wavelength infrared (LWIR) photodetectors at the atmospheric windows of 3-5 and 8-12 µm, respectively, are currently dominated by HgCdTe and quantum well infrared photodetectors.
