  1. 1. Tumors associated with Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer: Defective Mismatch Repair and Familial Risk of Cancer

    Author : Kajsa Ericson Lindquist; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; Multiple Tumors; Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer; Cytology; Cohort study; Population based; Familial Risk of Cancer; Immunohistochemistry; MSH2; MSH6; MLH1; Microsatellite Instability; Soft Tissue Sarcomas; Cancer of the Upper Urinary Tract; Cancer of the Small Intestine; Colorectal Cancer;

    Abstract : Inactivation of the DNA mismatch repair (MMR) system is a tumorigenic mechanism involved in 15-20% of tumor types such as colorectal and endometrial cancer and is specifically associated with the Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC) syndrome. These MMR defective tumors are characterized by microsatellite instability (MSI), a phenomenon that reflects alterations in length of repeated sequences, and 90% of MSI tumors show loss of immunohistochemical expression for the MMR protein affected. 2. 2. Patient experiences of the radiotherapy process and treatment

    Author : Kristina Olausson; Björn Zackrisson; Lena Sharp; Ulrika Östlund; Birgitta Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; radiotherapy; radiation skin reactions; patient experience; treatment environment; anxiety; person-centred care; questionnaire.; onkologi; Oncology;

    Abstract : BackgroundMost cancer patients undergo external radiotherapy (RT) at some stage during their treatment trajectory. RT is often associated with unfamiliar procedures where the technical environment, side effects and interaction with staff seem to play a major role in the patient’s treatment experience. READ MORE

  3. 3. The expression and molecular functions of LRIG proteins in cancer and psoriasis

    Author : Terese Karlsson; Håkan Hedman; Mikael Johansson; Roger Henriksson; Kim Jensen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LRIG1; LRIG2; LRIG3; LMO7 lung cancer; glioma; psoriasis; Oncology; onkologi;

    Abstract : The leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domains (LRIG) family consists of three integral membrane proteins that are important in human cancer. LRIG1 is a negative regulator of growth factor signaling. Its expression is associated with longer survival in several cancer types, and the gene has been shown to function as a tumor suppressor. 4. 4. Diversity of Skin Infections

    Author : Johanna Ekström; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human papillomavirus; high-throughput sequencing; Staphylococcus auereus; multiple displacement amplification; non melanoma skin cancer;

    Abstract : The identification of infectious agents in cancer has been one of the most rewarding endeavors in cancer research. Currently about 20% of the global cancer burden is linked to an infection. A common characteristic of virus-induced cancer is an increased incidence in immunosuppressed patients, presumably because of impaired host control of virus. READ MORE

  5. 5. Exploring the Molecular Landscape of Cutaneous Melanoma

    Author : Shamik Mitra; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Melanoma; Immune System; Tumor Microenvironment; Epigenetics; MITF; SOX10;

    Abstract : Cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) is one of the most aggressive skin malignancies with poor prognosisfor the patients with metastatic disease. Earlier studies have highlighted the existing molecular diversityamongst CMM tumors. READ MORE
