  1. 21. Use of tyre shreds in civil engineering applications : technical and environmental properties

    Author : Tommy Edeskär; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : End-of-life tyres are a disposal problem regarding the large volumes produced every year. Tyre shreds are primarily produced to reduce the transportation volumes of end-of-life tyres after collection. READ MORE

  2. 22. Mathematical modelling for optimization of truck tyres selection

    Author : Zuzana Sabartova; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; simulation-based optimization; truck tyres selection; surrogate model; radial basis function interpolation; rolling resistance coefficient; combinatorial set of problem instances; global optimization; global optimization;

    Abstract : This thesis, which consists of an introduction and three appended papers, concerns the optimal selection of tyres for a given vehicle configuration and an operating environment in which the vehicle is to be used. The optimization problem stems from an industrial project performed in cooperation between Chalmers University of Technology and Volvo Group Trucks Technology (GTT). READ MORE

  3. 23. Improving emergency braking performance of heavy vehicles

    Author : Leon Henderson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; heavy vehicles; pneumatic brake actuator; ABS; pneumatic braking system; Slip control braking; HGV; vehicle testing; tyre dynamics;

    Abstract : Previous studies by the Cambridge Vehicle Dynamics Consortium (CVDC) have suggested that, by improving the control bandwidth of conventional Heavy Goods Vehicle(HGV) brake actuators and using a ‘slip control’ braking strategy, HGV stopping distances could be reduced by up to 30% over existing systems. The work covered in this thesis looks to: validate the CVDC’s previous braking performance predictions through Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulation, investigate how in-plane tyre dynamics may influence such a system’s performance, develop and build a next generation high-bandwidth braking system for vehicle implementation and carry out comparative back-to-back vehicle tests between the new system and commercially available HGV ABS. Abstract : This thesis, which consists of an introduction and five appended papers, concerns the optimal selection of tyres for a variety of vehicle configurations as well as operating environments. The selection problem stems from a project cooperation between Chalmers University of Technology and Volvo Group Trucks Technology. READ MORE

  5. 25. Exploiting over-actuation to reduce tyre energy losses in vehicle manoeuvres

    Author : Mohammad Mehdi Davari; Annika Stensson Trigell; Jenny Jerrelind; Patrick Gruber; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : Due to environmental and economic challenges road vehicles need bettersolutions to reduce energy consumption. Improvement in tyre rolling e-ciency is one of the key enablers for lower energy consumption. The shifttowards electrication and intelligent driving creates new opportunities todevelop energy-ecient vehicles. READ MORE
