1. Truck Tyre Vibration Behaviour. Measurements and High Frequency Modelling
Abstract : To facilitate tyre-road noise prediction, a computationally efficient high frequency tyre model is needed. Such models are always a compromise between the desired accuracy and the need for simplicity. In addition the accuracy of models is often limited by the quality of the input data available. READ MORE

2. Excitation of Tyre Vibrations due to Tyre/Road Interaction
Abstract : Tyre/road noise is the main contributor to road traffic noise at speeds above 40 km/h for passenger cars and above 70 km/h for heavy trucks. Research has been carried out during the last thirty years in order to understand and quantify the generation mechanisms responsible for tyre/road noise. READ MORE

3. Waveguide Finite Elements Applied on a Car Tyre
Abstract : Structures acting as waveguides are quite common withexamples being, construction beams, fluid filled pipes, railsand extruded aluminium profiles. Curved structures like cartyres and pipe-bends may also be considered as waveguides. Wavesolutions in such structures may be found by a method calledthe Waveguide Finite Element Method or WFEM. 4. Improving emergency braking performance of heavy vehicles
Abstract : Previous studies by the Cambridge Vehicle Dynamics Consortium (CVDC) have suggested that, by improving the control bandwidth of conventional Heavy Goods Vehicle(HGV) brake actuators and using a ‘slip control’ braking strategy, HGV stopping distances could be reduced by up to 30% over existing systems. The work covered in this thesis looks to: validate the CVDC’s previous braking performance predictions through Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulation, investigate how in-plane tyre dynamics may influence such a system’s performance, develop and build a next generation high-bandwidth braking system for vehicle implementation and carry out comparative back-to-back vehicle tests between the new system and commercially available HGV ABS. 5. Dynamics of Vehicle-Deck Interactions
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the modelling and analysis of vehicle-ship deck interactions. The physical modelling of vehicles is discussed together with the modelling of supporting structures/ship decks, and the interactions between vehicles and supporting structures. READ MORE
