  1. 1. Growth factor regulation of the urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) system in human endometrium, and the significance of uPA receptor activation in endometrial angiogenesis

    University dissertation from Institutionen för Obstetrik och gynekologi, Universitetssjukhuset, 22185 Lund

    Author : Tove Sandberg; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics; endothelial cell migration; angiogenesis; uPA:PAI-1 complex; uPAR; TGF-beta; PAI-1; EGF; uPA; Growth factor; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to examine the role of growth factors and the urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) system in human endometrial angiogenesis. Growth factors as well as progesterone increased expression of the main inhibitor of uPA (PAI-1) in primary cultures of endometrial stromal cells. READ MORE

  2. 2. The prognostic significance of uPA, uPAR an d the cytokine IL-1-alpha in urinary bladder cancer

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Oncology-Pathology

    Author : Maria Seddighzadeh; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urinary bladder cancer; urokinase; urokinase receptor; interleukin-1;

    Abstract : Tumor invasion and metastasis are the major causes of cancer-related death. Proteases are important for the invasive and metastatic propensities of tumors. We have studied the mechanism underlying endogenous expression of the serine protease urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) by human breast cancer cells. READ MORE

  3. 3. The uPA receptor in ovarian cancer. Regulation by EGF and the estrogen responsive membrane receptor GPR30. Soluble uPAR in diagnosis and prognosis

    University dissertation from Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Lund University

    Author : Emir Henic; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; G-1.; GPR30; suPAR; prognosis; estradiol; ovarian cancer; EGFR; ER; diagnosis;

    Abstract : Cell migration is the first step of the invasive process, which is part of the malignant phenotype, and the uPA receptor (uPAR) plays a central role in cell migration. We studied the role of EGF and estrogen on cell migration and uPAR expression in ovarian cancer cell lines. READ MORE

  4. 4. Invasion promoting factors in endometriotic and endometrial tissue

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Clinical Sciences

    Author : Christina Bruse; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endometriosis; endometrium; PF; tPA; uPA; uPAR; PAI-1; PAI-2; IL-1beta; IL-6; TNFalpha.;

    Abstract : Endometriosis is a common gynaecologic disorder, affecting women of fertile age with pelvic pain and infertility, and is characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterine cavity. Retrograde shed endometrial fragments are presumed to adhere to pelvic structures and grow invasively, thereby creating endometriotic tissue. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ovarian tumors. Prevalence, malignancy risk and significance of the Plasminogen activation system

    University dissertation from Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Lund University

    Author : Christer Borgfeldt; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduktion; andrologi; gynekologi; sexuality; Obstetrik; Ovarian neoplasm; andrology; reproduction; epidemiology; ultrasonography; plasminogen activation; prognosis; gynaecology; Obstetrics; sexualitet;

    Abstract : The aims were to assess the prevalence of ovarian tumors in fertile asymptomatic women and to evaluate the risk of ovarian cancer in women with a history of benign ovarian tumors and endometriosis. In order to search for biomarkers in ovarian tumors, the plasminogen activating (PA) system was studied. READ MORE
