  1. 1. Short Pulses in Engineered Nonlinear Media

    Author : Stefan Holmgren; Fredrik Laurell; Derryck Reid; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nonlinear optics; KTiOPO4; frequency conversion; mode-locked lasers; ultra-fast lasers; visible lasers; short pulses; ultrafast nonlinear optics; diagnostic applications of nonlinear optics; nonlinear optical materials; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Short optical pulses and engineered nonlinear media is a powerful combination. Mode locked pulses exhibit high peak powers and short pulse duration and the engineered ferro-electric KTiOPO4 facilitates several different nonlinear processes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Extreme Electron Beams and Brilliant X-rays : Generation, Manipulation and Characterization of Relativistic Electron Beams for and from Plasma-Based Accelerators

    Author : Jonas Björklund Svensson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laser; plasma; wakefield; acceleration; accelerator; relativistic; electrons; x-rays; ultra-fast; betatron; laser-wakefield acceleration; plasma-wakefield acceleration; Fysicumarkivet A:2020:Björklund;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on work done by the author on the development of plasma-based electron accelerators driven by ultra-intense laser pulses and dense electron bunches. Plasma based accelerators have several benefits, such as accelerating fields around 1000 times stronger than in “conventional” radio-frequency accelerators, which can allow for shrinking the overall footprint of the accelerator. 3. 3. Novel Technologies for Mode-Locking of Solid-State Lasers

    Author : Niels Meiser; Valdas Pasiskevicius; Steinmeyer Günter; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laser; mode-locked laser; pulsed laser; quantum dot; carbon nanotube; nonlinear optics; saturable absorber; Kerr-lens mode-locking; ultra-fast laser; picosecond laser; pulsed laser; semiconductor saturable absorber;

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the investigation of novel technologies for mode-locking of diode-pumped, solid-state lasers. Novel saturable absorbers are used: quantum dots (QDs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which both are low-dimensional nano-formations. In addition, mode-locking by cascaded nonlinearities is explored. Abstract : Atoms, molecules and clusters all constitute building blocks of macroscopic matter. Therefore, understanding the electronic and geometrical properties of such systems is the key to understanding the properties of solid state objects. READ MORE

  5. 5. Temporal Studies of Molecular Processes using Resonant Spectroscopy : Femtosecond experiments with synchrotron radiation and pulsed lasers

    Author : Ingela Hjelte; Dennis Lindle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The physical and chemical properties of matter are to a high degree determined by the electronic structure. One of the most powerful experimental techniques to study the electronic structure is electron spectroscopy. READ MORE
