  1. 1. Ultrasonic Fluid and Cell Manipulation

    Author : Mathias Ohlin; Martin Viklund; Hans Hertz; Peter Glynne-Jones; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 3D cell culture; Acoustic streaming; Acoustofluidics; Cell manipulation; High-resolution imaging; Multi-well; Microplate; Natural killer cell; Piezo; Radiation force; Solid tumor; Solubilization; Spheroid; Standing wave; Temperature control; Transducer; Trapping; Ultrasonic; Fysik; Physics; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : During the last decade, ultrasonic manipulation has matured into an important tool with a wide range of applications, from fundamental cell biological research to clinical and industrial implementations. The contactless nature of ultrasound makes it possible to manipulate living cells in a gentle way, e.g. READ MORE

  2. 2. New methods for determination of airborne pollutants : Focus on tetrabromobisphenol A, organophosphate triesters and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

    Author : Johanna Tollbäck; Ulrika Nilsson; Peter Haglund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Air sampling; sampling methods; indoor air; SPE; SPME; extraction; dynamic extraction; online coupling; SWE; subcritical water extraction; GC MS; LC MS; organophosphate triesters; PAH; tetrabromobisphenol A; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the development and evaluation of new methods of sampling and analysis of organic pollutants in the indoor and outdoor environment. In Paper I, the development of a new method was reported for the determination of the brominated flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in air using sampling with glass fiber filter and polyurethane foam (PUF), ultrasonic solvent extraction and liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/MS). 3. 3. On-chip Ultrasonic Sample Preparation

    Author : Ida Sadat Iranmanesh; Martin Viklund; Johan Nilsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ultrasound; Sample preparation; Particle manipulation; Fysik; Physics; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : Acoustofluidics has become a well-established technology in the lab-on-a-chip scientific community. The technology involves primarily the manipulation of fluids and/or particles in microfluidic systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. Methods for Determination of Benzo(a)pyrene and High Molecular Weight (>300 Da) Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Particulate Matter from Ambient Air and Vehicle Exhausts

    Author : Christoffer Bergvall; Roger Westerholm; Stephen Wise; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PAH; dibenzopyrene; benzo a pyrene; standard reference material; air particulate matter; diesel particulate matter; toxic equivalence factor; ultrasonic assisted extraction; accelerated solvent extraction; automation; online coupling; GC MC; LC GC MS; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Air pollution with particulate matter (PM) raises considerable concern because of its adverse effects on human health. For this reason, and because the mechanisms of PM toxicity are not fully known, there is an urgent need to determine the chemical constituents of atmospheric PM, especially PM emanating from traffic - a major source of urban PM. 5. 5. Consumption and loss of commercial stabilisers in polyethylene exposed to different natural environments

    Author : Nadejzda Haider; KTH; []
    Keywords : LDPE; MDPE; ultrasonic extraction; polymer additives; stabilisers; antioxidants; HALS; Irganox 1010; Irgafos 168; migration; consumption; GC-MS; additive degradation products;

    Abstract : A procedure for the extraction and analysis of commercialstabilisers in low density and medium density polyethylene(LDPE and MDPE) films was developed and used to study theconsumption of stabilisers in polymers exposed to differentnatural environments. An ultrasonic technique was applied toextract HALS-3 (Chimassorb 944) from LDPE film and antioxidants(Irganox 1010 and Irgafos 168) from MDPE film. READ MORE
