  1. 1. Characterisation and treatment of patients with port wine stains with special reference to the emotional impact

    Author : Agneta Troilius; Dermatologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; capillary malformation; PWS; pulsed dye laser; laser doppler imager; ultrasound; psychosocial impact; depth; reflectance spectrophotometry; Dermatologi; venereologi; venereology; Dermatology;

    Abstract : This thesis covers 12 years of experience in treating patients with congenital capillary malformations, so called port wine stains (PWS). The wide variation in treatment response to laser therapy has developed a profound need for the development of objective devises to measure treatment outcome, so that the maximum effectiveness of therapy can be achieved without unnecessary treatments. 2. 2. Health economic evaluation for evidence-informed decisions in low-resource settings : the case of Antenatal care policy in Rwanda

    Author : Regis Hitimana; Anni-Maria Pulkki-Brännström; Lars Lindholm; Gunilla Kranz; Peter C. Smith; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antenatal; maternal; cost; cost-effectiveness; ultrasound; EQ-5D-3L; Low-income countries; Public health; folkhälsa;

    Abstract : Introduction: The general aim of this thesis is to contribute to the use of health economic evidence for informed health care decisions in low-resource settings, using antenatal care (ANC) policy in Rwanda as a case study. Despite impressive and sustained progress over the last 15 years, Rwanda’s maternal mortality ratio is still among the highest in the world. READ MORE

  3. 3. Structural health monitoring of concrete structures using diffuse waves

    Author : Patrik Fröjd; Teknisk geologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; övervakning; ultraljud; betong; diffusa vågor; oförstörande provning; structural health monitoring; ultrasound; concrete; nondestructive testing; Civil engineering; diffuse waves;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis has aimed to investigate and implement techniques for ultrasonic measurements in structural health monitoring applications for civil structures. The focus of the work has been to make these systems practical in real applications, where the large size of the structures, and the changing environments they are exposed to, pose problems for many methods which otherwise fare well in laboratory settings. 4. 4. Characterization of energy gases by ultrasound : theory and experiments

    Author : Pär-Erik Martinsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Signalbehandling; Signal Processing;

    Abstract : The long-term goal with the research presented in this thesis has been to develop an ultrasonic sensor capable of measuring the energy content of energy gases such as natural- and biogas. The energy content can be calculated if the concentration of each constituent of a gas mixture is known. READ MORE

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to explore women's reactions to and experiences of fetal screening for Down's syndrome PS) by means of an ultrasound examination, including measurement of fetal nuchal translucency (NT). The effect of this screening on maternal worry about the baby's health was investigated, as well as reactions to a false positive test and interpretation of information about riskAlso, an instrument measuring worry during pregnancy, the Cambridge Worry Scale, was translated into Swedish and tested on a sample of pregnant women.
