11. Preservation of parathyroid function in thyroid and parathyroid surgery
Abstract : Preservation of normal parathyroid function and calcium homeostasis after operations on the thyroid and parathyroid glands is a difficult assignment in endocrine surgery, and it is crucial to minimise the risks of permanent postoperative hypoparathyroidism. The aim of this thesis was to study the vascular supply of the parathyroid glands and the revascularisation, growth, and function of transplanted parathyroid tissue, in order to add new information about parathyroid preservation. 12. Mechanisms and time course of cell death in embryonic nigral tissue and intrastriatal transplants
Abstract : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder and severely affects about one in a hundred persons over the age of fifty years. In PD, there is a reduced striatal concentration of the neurotransmittor dopamine, mainly caused by a degeneration of the dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. READ MORE

14. Experimental Neuroretinal Transplantation
Abstract : Embryonic full-thickness rabbit neuroretinal sheets were transplanted to the subretinal space of adult hosts. This was accomplished by using a new transplantation technique involving vitrectomy and retinotomy. The grafts were followed from 10 to 306 days after surgery, and were then examined by different histological techniques. READ MORE

15. Salivary gland neoplasms : studies on the cytoskeleton, the secretory apparatus and the nuclear DNA content
Abstract : The heterogeneity of salivary gland neoplasms have made classification and prognostication of these tumours sometimes difficult, and the introduction of techniques, such as enzyme and carbohydrate histochemistry and electron microscopy have only to a certain extent increased our knowledge in these respects. In the present study immunohistochemical methods have been used to identify intermediate filament proteins (IFP) in normal fetal and adult parotid glands, as well as in salivary neoplasms. READ MORE
