  1. 11. Pharmacokinetic aspects of the blood-brain barrier transport and equilibration of opioids studied with microdialysis in rats and mice

    Author : Rujia Xie; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Biopharmaceutics; biofarmaci;

    Abstract : The blood-brain barrier (BBB) transport and equilibration of opioids with different physico-chemical properties and similar structures - codeine, morphine, morphine3-glucuronide (M3G) and morphine-6-glucuronide (M6G) - were investigated in rats and mice using microdialysis. The influences of active efflux pumps, P-glycoprotein (Pgp) and multidrug resistance protein (MRP1), on the BBB transport of morphine and M3G were studied. READ MORE

  2. 12. Studies on the enantioselective disposition of amlodipine : A challenge in bioanalysis

    Author : Martin Josefsson; Martin Ahnoff; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : To study the disposition of the enantiomers of the calcium channel blocker amlodipine in human plasma, an enantioselective high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) assay was developed. Several HPLC techniques such as chiral ion-pair forming, chiral derivatisation and direct separation on chiral columns were evaluated. READ MORE

  3. 13. Distribution of antiviral nucleoside analogues into brain and skin

    Author : Natalia Borg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to study physiological and physico-chemical factors influencing the pharmacokinetics and distribution over the blood-brain barrier of antiviral nucleoside analogues in the rat, and to study the distribution to the human skin in vivo of an anti-herpetic nucleoside analogue. Microdialysis was used to sample the free (unbound) extracellular concentration of the nucleoside analogues from the brain tissue, muscle and blood in the rat and from the dermis of healthy human volunteers. 4. 14. Local infiltration analgesia in knee arthroplasty

    Author : Per Essving; Kjell Axelsson; Lars Weidenhielm; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Knee arthroplasty; minimally invasive surgery; ropivacaine; ketorolac; intrathecal morphine; local infiltration analgesia; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Local infiltration analgesia (LIA) is a new technique for postoperative pain management following knee arthroplasty. LIA involves a long-acting local anesthetic (ropivacaine), a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug (ketorolac) and epinephrine infiltrated into the knee joint during surgery and injected postoperatively via a catheter. 5. 15. In vivo and in vitro models for determination of antiviral activity and resistance

    Author : Ewa Ljungdahl Ståhle; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The AIDS epidemic has been the driving force for the discovery of substances that inhibit the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Much interest has earlier focused on a single gene product central to the life cycle of HIV and to all other retroviruses: the reverse transcriptase (RT), the enzyme responsible for synthesis of DNA from viral RNA.
