  1. 11. The meaning(s) of inclusion in mathematics in student talk : Inclusion as a topic when students talk about learning and teaching in mathematics

    Author : Helena Roos; Despina Potari; Hanna Palmér; Nùria Planas; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; inclusion in mathematics; discourse analysis; students meaning s ; Matematikens didaktik; Mathematics education; Mathematical Education;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to research and practice within the field of special education in mathematics with more knowledge about, and an understanding of, students´ meaning(s) of inclusion in mathematics education. Three research questions guide the study: What meaning(s) is/are ascribed, and how is inclusion used, in mathematics education research? What meaning(s) do the students ascribe to inclusion in mathematics learning and teaching? And what frames students´ meaning(s) of inclusion in mathematics learning and teaching?The first part of this study began with a systematic literature review on the notion of inclusion in mathematics education research, and the search resulted in 1,296 research studies. 2. 12. Duality-based adaptive finite element methods with application to time-dependent problems

    Author : August Johansson; Mats G. Larson; Paul Houston; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; finite element methods; dual-weighted residual method; multiphysics; a posteriori error estimation; adaptive algorithms; discontinuous Galerkin; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : To simulate real world problems modeled by differential equations, it is often not sufficient to  consider and tackle a single equation. Rather, complex phenomena are modeled by several partial dierential equations that are coupled to each other. READ MORE

    Author : Markus Ådahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; iterated function system; isometry; central limit theorem; weak invariance principle; law of the iterated logarithm; random walk; MATEMATIK; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers, all concerning random iteration of isometries. The papers are:I. Ambroladze A, Ådahl M, Random iteration of isometries in unbounded metric spaces. Nonlinearity 16 (2003) 1107-1117. READ MORE

  4. 14. The Skorohod problem and weak approximation of stochastic differential equations in time-dependent domains

    Author : Thomas Önskog; Kaj Nyström; Leif Persson; Johan Tysk; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Skorohod problem; weak approximation; time-dependent domain; stochastic differential equations; parabolic partial differential equations; oblique reflection; stopped diffusions; Euler scheme; adaptive methods; sensitivity analysis; financial derivatives; Greeks ; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of a summary and four scientific articles. All four articles consider various aspects of stochastic differential equations and the purpose of the summary is to provide an introduction to this subject and to supply the notions required in order to fully understand the articles. 5. 15. Mathematics teaching through the lens of planning : actors, structures, and power

    Author : Helena Grundén; Jeppe Skott; Sara Irisdotter Aldenmyr; Anna Chronaki; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; mathematics education; mathematics teaching; planning; Critical Discourse Analysis; actors; structures; power; Mathematical Education; Matematikdidaktik;

    Abstract : This dissertation explores mathematics teaching by focusing on planning. The planning is seen as a social phenomenon related to surrounding practices and power relations in and between practices. Hence, planning in this dissertation is explored beyond what teachers do when planning. READ MORE
