  1. 6. Vascular Endothelin and Angiotensin Receptors Regulation in Inflammatory Arterial Disorders

    Author : Ivan Dimitrijevic; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ischemic heart disease; resistance artery; giant cell arteritis; temporal artery; immunohistochemistry; AT2 receptor; AT1 receptor; Endothelin-1; ETA receptor; ETB receptor;

    Abstract : The present thesis is aimed to examine the hypothesis that the degree of vascular inflammation correlates with the expression of vascular endothelin and angiotensin receptors. The receptor changes were studied in subcutaneous resistance arteries in patients with different degrees of ischemic heart disease (IHD). READ MORE

  2. 7. Effects of ethanol on muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in nerve cells

    Author : Murielle Hellsten Caron; Institutionen för laboratoriemedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; nerve cell; SH-SY5Y; NOS; PKC; PLC; Ethanol; mAChR;

    Abstract : This thesis focused on the mechanisms involved in the effects of long-term ethanol treatment on mAChRs and their coupled-signal transduction pathway in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. All 5 subtypes of mAChRs were expressed in these cells. READ MORE

  3. 8. Influence of FK506 on certain aspects of lymphocyte activation and lymphocyte-endothelial cell interactions in vitro

    Author : Håkan Karlsson; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytokine; adhesion molecule; endothelium; lymphocyte metabolism; interleukin 2 receptor; FK506; cyclosporin A; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; Immunology; transplantation; serology; Microbiology; bacteriology; mycology; virology; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, the influence of the immunosuppressive drug FK506 on mitogen-induced changes in the expression of subunits a and ß of the IL-2 receptor by isolated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells has been studied. Up-regulation and release of the a-chain were potently depressed by FK506, even in the presence of exogenous IL-2. READ MORE

  4. 9. Intensive Care Unit Muscle Wasting : Skeletal Muscle Phenotype and Underlying Molecular Mechanisms

    Author : Sudhakar Reddy Aare; Larsson Lars; Rooyackers Olav; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute quadriplegic myopathy; gene expression; myosin; heat shock proteins; mechanical ventilation; myostatin; sepsis; corticosteroids; diaphragm; Clinical Neurophysiology; Klinisk neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Acute quadriplegic myopathy (AQM), or critical illness myopathy, is a common debilitating acquired disorder in critically ill intensive care unit (ICU) patients characterized by generalized muscle wasting and weakness of limb and trunk muscles. A preferential loss of the thick filament protein myosin is considered pathognomonic of this disorder, but the myosin loss is observed relatively late during the disease progression. READ MORE

  5. 10. Leukocyte dysfunction and inflammatory markers in patients with chronic kidney disease and patients on dialysis

    Author : Jenny Olsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and patients on dialysis are at risk for serious infectious complications. This is partly due to leukocyte dysfunction, which is a consequence of both uremic retention solutes and of dialysis. READ MORE
