  1. 1. Neurotoxicity of β-lactam antibiotics : experimental kinetic and neurophysiological studies

    Author : Silvia E. Schliamser; Ragnar Norrby; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; benzylpenicillin; blood-brain barrier; ß-lactam antibiotics; CSF; CNS; EEG; imipenem cilastatin; FCE 22101; meningitis; neurotoxicity of; silent-second; thiopental; transport system; uraemia;

    Abstract : The neurotoxic potential of intravenous administered benzylpenicillin (BPC) was studied in rabbits with intact blood-CNS barriers and rabbits with experimental E. coli meningitis. At onset of epileptogenic EEG activity or seizures, serum, CSF and brain tissue were collected for assay of BPC. READ MORE

  4. 4. Erythrocyte amino acids in health and renal failure and their association to the IGF-I/IGFBP-1 axis

    Author : José Carolino Divino Filho; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : amino acid; ASP DNA; catabolism dialysis; erythrocytes; glutamate; glutamine; health; human; IGF-I; IGFBP-1; muscle; plasmaprotein intake; rat; renal failure; uraemia;

    Abstract : Abnormalities in amino acids (AA) metabolism in uraemia have mainly been reported to occur in plasma and muscle. No investigation has been undertaken to evaluate the AA levels in plasma, muscle and red blood cells (RBC) simultaneously, although the RBC pool of free AA constitutes a large proportion of the free AA in blood, and RBC are involved in the interorgan transport of AA. 5. 5. Wnt/β-Catenin Signalling in Parathyroid Tumours

    Author : Peyman Björklund; Gunnar Westin; Göran Åkerström; Tommy Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Surgery; Hyperparathyroidism; β-catenin; Mutation; Human parathyroid cell line; LRP5; Alternative splicing; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) due to parathyroid tumours with hypersecretion of parathyroid hormone and hypercalcaemia is a common disease with incompletely understood etiology affecting more than 1 % of the population, primarily postmenopausal women. In secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT), parathyroid tumours develop in response to calcium and vitamin D deficiency generally in patients with uraemia. READ MORE
