  1. 1. Urban heavy metals : Stocks and flows

    Author : Louise Sörme; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Heavy metais; urban areas; Substance flow analysis; inflow; stock; outflow; diffuse emisson; waste; wastewater treatment plant; legislation; Tungmetaller; miljöaspekter; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : Levels of heavy metals in different media are high today, both in Stockholm and other urban areas. Where do the metals come from? Production emissions and point sources are not the answer, since earlier research has shown that production emissions are lower than emission from goods during use (the diffuse emission). READ MORE

  2. 2. Traffic-related pollutants in urban snow : Concentrations, size fractionation, and release with snowmelt

    Author : Arya Vijayan; Maria Viklander; Helene Österlund; Göran Blomqvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Urban snow; Traffic pollution; Suspended solids; Metals; PAHs; Tire and Road wear Particles T RWPs ; Microplastics MPs ; Size fractionation; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ;

    Abstract : In urban areas with seasonal snow, traffic-related pollutants such as solid particles, metals, chloride, organic pollutants, and microplastics (MPs) can be temporarily stored in snowbanks along roads and streets. When the snow melts, it releases the accumulated pollutants and the resulting snowmelt with diverse pollutants may partly infiltrate into the ground, or enter storm sewers and eventually be discharged into, and impact on, the receiving waters. 3. 3. The trace of metals : Use, emissions and sediment load of urban heavy metals

    Author : Arne Jonsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : Urban areas have been considered potential ecological hot spots for metal pollution. This is the result of three trends. First, the 20th century saw a rapid increase in the use of many materials, including metals, in the industrialized world. Second, urbanization has made towns and cities areas nodes of material flows. 4. 4. Predictive Modelling of Heavy Metals in Urban Lakes

    Author : Martin Lindström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Predictive modelling; heavy metals; lakes; urban influences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Sedimentology; sedimentologi;

    Abstract : Heavy metals are well-known environmental pollutants. In this thesis predictive models for heavy metals in urban lakes are discussed and new models presented. The base of predictive modelling is empirical data from field investigations of many ecosystems covering a wide range of ecosystem characteristics. READ MORE

  5. 5. On Transfer of Work Material to Tools

    Author : Jannica Heinrichs; Staffan Jacobson; Urban Wiklund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Tribology; Friction; Forming; Cutting; Galling; Material transfer; Tribological coatings; Surface finish; Micro mechanisms; Aluminium; Materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Abstract : Bulk forming and cutting are widely used to shape metals in industrial production. Bulk forming is characterized by large strains, extensive plastic deformation and large surface expansions. Cutting is characterized by high speeds, high pressures and high temperatures. READ MORE
