  1. 1. On Turbulence Modelling for Bilge Vortices: A Test of Eight Models for Three Cases

    Author : Urban Svennberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wake; turbulence modelling; nonlinear eddy-viscosity model; bilge vortices; ship flow; jet; Navier-Stokes equation; two-equation model; Reynolds stress model; vortex;

    Abstract : This work is a test, in three steps, of turbulence models for the calculation of the flow field around ships. Eight models ranging from k-e and k-w models to a Reynolds-stress model (RSM) are tested. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling District Heating Network Costs

    Author : Luis Sánchez-García; Urban Persson; Helge Averfalk; Erik Möllerström; Marcus Thern; Magnus Åberg; Sweden Lund Lund University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; District Heating; Pipe network; Cost analysis; Distribution Capital Cost; Effective Width; Plot Ratio; Heat Density; GIS; Smart Cities and Communities; Smarta städer och samhällen;

    Abstract : The solution of the undergoing climate and energy crises requires a radical transformation of the energy system, in which sustainability, no carbon emissions and energy efficiency ought to play a paramount role. This revolution should extend to all areas of the energy system, including the space heating and cooling sector, which accounts for a third of the European final energy demand and, in the European continent, it is still mostly supplied by fossil fuels. 3. 3. Sputtering and Characterization of Complex Multi-element Coatings

    Author : Erik Särhammar; Tomas Nyberg; Ulf Jansson; Urban Wiklund; Gustaf Sjöblom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thin film; coating; magnetron sputtering; modelling; tribofilm; tungsten disulphide;

    Abstract : The thin film technology is of great importance in modern society and is a key technology in wide spread applications from electronics and solar cells to hard protective coatings on cutting tools and diffusion barriers in food packaging. This thesis deals with various aspects of thin film processing and the aim of the work is twofold; firstly, to obtain a fundamental understanding of the sputter deposition and the reactive sputter deposition processes, and secondly, to evaluate sputter deposition of specific material systems with low friction properties and to improve their performance. 4. 4. District heating in future Europe : Modelling expansion potentials and mapping heat synergy regions

    Author : Urban Persson; Sven Werner; Lars J. Nilsson; Sweden Gothenburg Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; district heating; energy efficiency; distribution capital cost; heat demand density; plot ratio; excess heat recovery; sequential energy supply; heat utilisation rate; effective width;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a set of methodologies and approaches to investigate and determine the extent by which district heating can contribute to improved energy system efficiency and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in future Europe. The main motivation for suggesting large-scale implementation of district heating as a structural energy efficiency measure to obtain these objectives originates essentially in the predicament that a majority of European buildings today remain highly dependent on fossil fuels to provide energy needed for space heating and hot water preparation. 5. 5. Modelling of Substance Flows in Urban Drainage Systems

    Author : Stefan Ahlman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; urban stormwater; source control; modelling; diffuse pollution; BMPs;

    Abstract : Stormwater is recognised as a large contributor of toxic substances to receiving waters. Different measures to manage stormwater quality have been proposed, including structural and non-structural best management practices (BMPs). Computer models have become useful tools for the analysis, evaluation and design of these BMPs. READ MORE
