  1. 1. Traffic-related pollutants in urban snow : Concentrations, size fractionation, and release with snowmelt

    Author : Arya Vijayan; Maria Viklander; Helene Österlund; Göran Blomqvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Urban snow; Traffic pollution; Suspended solids; Metals; PAHs; Tire and Road wear Particles T RWPs ; Microplastics MPs ; Size fractionation; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ;

    Abstract : In urban areas with seasonal snow, traffic-related pollutants such as solid particles, metals, chloride, organic pollutants, and microplastics (MPs) can be temporarily stored in snowbanks along roads and streets. When the snow melts, it releases the accumulated pollutants and the resulting snowmelt with diverse pollutants may partly infiltrate into the ground, or enter storm sewers and eventually be discharged into, and impact on, the receiving waters. 2. 2. Green Urban Drainage Infrastructure : Hydrology and Modelling of Grass Swales

    Author : Hendrik Rujner; Maria Viklander; Günther Leonhardt; Jiri Marsalek; Barraud Sylvie; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ;

    Abstract : The management of urban runoff has evolved along with the advancement of understanding of runoff environmental impacts. Besides the impacts on water quality in the receiving waters, the impacts on the urban hydrologic regime include reduced infiltration by the sealing of pervious land, reduced evapotranspiration by removal of vegetation, and the resulting increase of stormwater runoff peaks and volumes causing flooding, and ultimately degradation of receiving waters. 3. 3. Microbial risk assessment and its implications for risk management in urban water systems

    Author : Therese Westrell; Thor-Axel Stenström; Nick Ashbolt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantitative microbial risk assessment; pathogens; urban; decentralised; failures; noroviruses; water consumption; HACCP; drinking water; wastewater; sludge; faeces; risk management; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Abstract : Infectious disease can be transmitted via various environmental pathways, many of which are incorporated into our water and wastewater systems. Quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA) can be a valuable tool in identifying hazard exposure pathways and estimating their associated health impacts. READ MORE

  4. 4. Particle concentrations : analysis methods for urban runoff

    Author : Kerstin Nordqvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Abstract : Urban runoff often contains high concentrations of particles. Pollutants that adsorbs to surfaces of particulate material will be transported to receiving waters or a sewage treatment plant. For the recipient, the particles in the runoff are a significant cause of water quality impairment. READ MORE

  5. 5. Urban stormwater systems in future climates : assessment and management of hydraulic overloading

    Author : Karolina Berggren; Adrian Saul; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Abstract : Increasing global temperatures and tendencies of more frequent extreme weather events have been observed over the recent decades, and the continuation of this trend is predicted by future climate models. Such climatic changes impact on many human activities and hence the interest in, and focus on, climate change has increased rapidly in recent years. READ MORE
