1. Urodynamic modelling and measurement techniques for assessment of urethral function during micturition
Abstract : According to Griffiths' theory of flow through elastic tubes the urinary flow is controlled by an elastic constriction. The mechanical properties of this flow-controlling zone are described by the intrinsic urethral pressure as a function of cross-sectional area given by the pressure/area relation p(A)=pmo + KnAn, where pmo is the minimal urethral opening pressure, A the cross-sectional area and Kn and n are parameters describing the distensibility of this zone. 2. Reducing the morbidity of transurethral resection of the prostate based on patient selection, fluid absorption, and blood loss
Abstract : A higher long-term mortality due to myocardial infarction after TURP, compared to open surgery, irrigating fluid absorption and blood loss, prompted this investigation of whether prostate size has any correlation with cardiovascular risk factors, whether two common fluids differ in terms of harmful effects, and whether premedication with finasteride may reduce the blood loss during TURP. Paper I; Fifty-two patients were studied before the treatment of their bladder outlet obstruction. READ MORE

3. Regulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase - Consequences in experimental models of bladder disease
Abstract : Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression is associated with various pathophysiological conditions in the lower urinary tract. The aims of this thesis have been to investigate the regulation of iNOS in bladder smooth muscle cells and the consequences on neuromuscular regulation, cell growth and differentiation. READ MORE
