    Abstract : Urinary tract infection (UTI) is among the most common bacterial infections in humans and the majority are caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli). Abundant evidence indicates that nitric oxide (NO) produced by the inducible NO synthase (iNOS) plays an important role in host defense against infection. READ MORE

  2. 2. Evaluation and treatment of pelvic organ prolapse : clinical, radiological and histopathological aspects

    Author : Daniel Altman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Bowel function; Cystodefecoperitoneography; Histology; Pelvic organ prolapse. Rectal prolapse; Rectocele; Safety; Xenograft;

    Abstract : Objective: To assess the use of cystodefecoperitoneography (CDP) in clinical and radiological diagnosis of cystocele; to study the correlation between clinical and radiological findings at CDP and to evaluate if anatomical topography and structural abnormality corresponds to symptomatic presentation when assessing posterior vaginal wall prolapse; to evaluate if xenograft used at rectocele repair was associated with adverse clinical and histological inflammatory reactions; to prospectively examine if rectocele repair using xenograft is a safe method providing satisfactory clinical and symptomatical outcome; and to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of genital prolapse and urinary incontinence in female patients operated for rectal prolapse. Methods: The following methods were used: The Pelvic organ prolapse quantification system (POPQ), CDP, bowel function questionnaires, pelvic floor surveys, histological, histopathological and clinical inflammatory quantification. 3. 3. Familial risks for cancer with reference to lung cancer

    Author : Xinjun Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Familial cancer; population-based; hereditary factors; familial risk; lung neoplasms.;

    Abstract : Familial aggregation of cancer may be due either to environmental factors shared by family members, or to shared genes. Familial clustering has been an avenue to the understanding of the etiology of cancer and has been a basis for clinical decisions and counseling, as well as guiding the identification of cancer-related genes.
