  1. 1. In vivo Pharmacokinetic Interactions of Finasteride and Identification of Novel Metabolites

    Author : Anna Lundahl; Hans Lennernäs; Dennis A Smith; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; drug-drug interactions; herb-drug interactions; pharmacokinetics; metabolism; CYP3A4; hydroxylation; glucuronidation; UGT enzymes; mass spectrometry; biliary excretion; urinary excretion; finasteride; PHARMACY; FARMACI;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to improve the understanding of the in vivo pharmacokinetics and, in particular, the metabolism of finasteride, a 5α-reductase inhibitor used in the treatment of enlarged prostate glands and male pattern baldness. CYP3A4 has been identified as the major enzyme involved in the sequential metabolism of finasteride to ω-OH finasteride (M1) and ω-COOH finasteride (M3). READ MORE

    Abstract : From 1990 to 1998, estimations of the effective dose from external as well as internal irradiation from 137Cs and 134Cs were carried out for inhabitants in rural villages in the Bryansk region, Russia, highly contaminated due to the Chernobyl accident in 1986. The villages were situated about 180 km from the Chernobyl power plant and the deposition of 137Cs was in the range 0. READ MORE

  4. 4. Sugar consumption and cardiometabolic risk. With a focus on the urinary sucrose and fructose biomarkers

    Author : Stina Ramne; Nutritionsepidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Added sugar; Sugar-sweetened beverages; Cardiometabolic risk; Type 2 diabetes; Cardiovascular disease; Urinary sugar biomarker; Sucrose and fructose excretion; Gut microbiota; Plasma proteome;

    Abstract : Introduction: In contrast to the intake of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), the evidence linking added sugar intake to the risk of cardiometabolic disease (primarily referring to cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes (T2D)) is contradictory. Aim: The aim of this thesis is to elucidate the role of added sugar intake in the risk for cardiometabolic diseases. READ MORE

  5. 5. Urinary bladder carcinoma, preclinical and clinical studies on EGFR based targeting

    Abstract : Radical cystectomy with bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy is the standard treatment for muscle-invasive transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder. Despite presumably localised malignancies and efficacious management about 50% of patients will die within 5 years, the majority due to metastatic disease. READ MORE
