  1. 1. Urinary Biomarkers and Patient Outcome in Chronic Kidney Disease and Atherosclerotic Heart Disease: The value of IgM-uria and IgG-uria

    Author : Rafid Tofik; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteinuria; Albuminuria; urine IgM; urine IgG; glomerulonephritis; chronic kidney disease; atherosclerosis; cardiovascular disease; diabetic kidney disease.;

    Abstract : Risk stratification of patients with chronic kidney disease and atherosclerotic heart disease is crucial. Microalbuminuria (MA) is associated with an increased risk of kidney and cardiovascular (CV) death, especially in patients with diabetes. READ MORE

  2. 2. B cell depleting therapy in systemic lupus erythematosus

    Author : Thórunn Jónsdóttir; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Systemic Lupus Erythematosus; Lupus nephritis; B cells; rituximab;

    Abstract : Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease characterized by multiple organ involvement, production of a wide range of autoantibodies and local formation or tissue deposition of immune complexes in the affected organs. Lupus nephritis (LN) is a common and serious organ involvement in patients with SLE. READ MORE

  3. 3. Tick-borne encephalitis - clinical and virological aspects

  4. 4. Islet xenograft rejection : studies in the pig-to-rodents and pig-to-primate models

    Author : Lars Wennberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Xenotransplantation; islets; rejection; porcine; immunosuppression; C-peptide;

    Abstract : The aims of this thesis was: 1) to compare islet allo- and xenograft rejection in rats, using immunosuppression with CsA in a mixed allogeneic-xenogeneic islet transplantation model, 2) to evaluate the efficacy of various immunosuppressive drugs, with special reference to Leflunomide, in preventing islet xenograft rejection in the pig-to-rat model, 3) to perform an immunohistochemical study of porcine islet xenograft rejection in primates including primates treated with CsA+DSG, and 4) to study the metabolism and excretion of porcine C-peptide in mice, with special reference to the use of donor-specific C-peptide for monitoring islet xenograft function. In summary, the results were as follows: 1. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies on human polyomavirus infection in association with central nervous system disorders and bone marrow transplantation

    Author : Gordana Bogdanovic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Human polyomaviruses BK virus (BKV) and JC virus (JCV) do not generally cause diseases in healthy immunocompetent individuals. However both BKV and JCV can establish persistent infections that can be reactivated and associated with serious clinical diseases in some immunocompromised patients. READ MORE
