  1. 1. Design of Functional Degradable Aliphatic Polyesters and Porous Tissue Engineering Scaffolds

    Author : Peter Plikk; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Marek Kowalczuk; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ring-opening polymerization; Stannous octoate; 2; 2’-azoisobutyronitrile; 1; 5-dioxepane-2-one; ε-caprolactone; L-lactide; Trimethylene carbonate; 2-methylene-1; 3-dioxe-5-pene; Copolymer; Porous scaffold; Porous tubular scaffold; Electron beam; Gamma irradiation; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : The regeneration of damaged tissues or organs using porous scaffolds which act as temporary guides for the patient’s own cells, i.e. tissue engineering, is a means to overcome the shortcomings of current standard medical treatments. READ MORE

  2. 2. Transmission Electron Microscopy of Graphene and Hydrated Biomaterial Nanostructures : Novel Techniques and Analysis

    Author : Sultan Akhtar; Klaus Leifer; Hilborn Jöns; Stefano Rubino; Marco Cantoni; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Graphene flakes; magnetic beads DNA coils; hydrated biomaterials; transmission electron microscopy; focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy; bright-field dark-field imaging; high resolution imaging; electron diffraction and cryogenic temperatures; Materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Abstract : Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) on light element materials and soft matters is problematic due to electron irradiation damage and low contrast. In this doctoral thesis techniques were developed to address some of those issues and successfully characterize these materials at high resolution. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterization of interface states & radiation damage effects in duo-lateral PSDs : Using SEM microscopy and UV beam profiling techniques

    Author : Omeime Xerviar Esebamen; Göran Thungström; Hans-Erik Nilsson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : There has been an increase in the use of duo‐lateral position sensitive detectors inpractically every radiation and beam detection application. These devices unlike other light detection system utilize the effect of the lateral division of the generated photocurrent to measure the position of the integral focus of an incoming lightsignal. 4. 4. Crosslinking of Ethylene Copolymers

    Author : Magnus Palmlöf; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dibutyltindilaurate; crosslinking; water; ethylene diene copolymers; peroxide; polyethylene; electron beam; crosslinking density; ethylene vinylsilane copolymers;

    Abstract : The chemical reactions taking place when crosslinking poly(ethylene-co-vinyltrimethoxysilane) (EVS) have been studied. Films of EVS were stored in water at 90 °C or treated at processing temperatures in a tubular oven. The different chemical groups involved in the reactions were then followed by FTIR after different treatment times. READ MORE

  5. 5. Single-Proton Irradiation of Living Cells - Development of New Tools for Low-Dose Radiation Research

    Author : Natalia Arteaga; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lithography; UVL; EBL; SeACell; human hepatoma cells HepG2 ; reactive oxygen species ROS ; bystander effect; SU-8; cell recognition; cell irradiation; Single-Ion Hit Facility; low-dose; Fysicumarkivet A:2010:Arteaga Marrero;

    Abstract : A Single-Ion Hit Facility (SIHF) consists of a custom-build facility based in particle accelerators which offers irradiation controlling the number of delivered particles with a precise targeting localization. The irradiation spot can be confined down to the nanometre scale allowing the irradiation of subcellular compartments with a single particle. READ MORE
