  1. 1. Direct and endothelium-linked serotonergic control of vascular tone in human uterine and umbilical arteries

    Author : Caroline Karlsson; gynekologisk och prenatal ultraljudsdiagnostik Obstetrisk; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; vascular smooth muscle; uterine artery human ; umbilical artery human ; serotonergic receptor; 5-HT; noradrenaline; endothelium; NPY; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : The serotonergic vascular control was investigated by in vitro pharmacology in the human uterine and umbilical arteries. The localisation of immunoreactive (IR) neuropeptide Y (NPY) and the influence of NPY on the adrenergic vascular effects in the human uterine artery were also studied. READ MORE

  2. 2. Acupuncture in reproductive medicine. Applications in human assisted reproduction and aspects of clinical and experimental neuroendocrinology

    Author : Elisabet Stener-Victorin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electro-acupuncture; blood flow impedance; circulation; uterine artery; in-vitro fertilization; oocyte aspiration; polycystic ovary syndrome; experimentally induced PCO; anovulation; gonadotropins; steroids; neuropeptides; b-endorphin; nerve growth factor; corticotropin-releasing factor.;

    Abstract : The use of acupuncture in the area of reproductive medicine is relatively new, and it has been rather poorly investigated in the past. When muscle afferents are stimulated by acupuncture in somatic segments related to the innervation of the ovaries and the uterus, functional changes occur in the neural substrate that may influence reproductive function and result in peripheral, segmental and central effects. 3. 3. Endothelin and endothelin receptors in human pregnancy and delivery

    Author : Kerstin Wolff; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Endothelin; endothelin receptor; human; pregnancy; preeclampsia; delivery;

    Abstract : Background: Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is a 21-amino acid peptide, first described by Yanagisawa et al in 1988. It is one of the most potent constrictors of smooth muscle cells identified to date. READ MORE

  4. 4. Brain-sparing Circulation in Growth-restricted Human Fetuses

    Author : Jing Fu; Urogynekologi och reproduktionsfarmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Fetal growth-restriction.; Brain-sparing.; Oxytocin challenge test.; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : The aim of the studies was to explore fetal circulatory changes relative to development of brain-sparing flow (BSF) in growth-restricted fetuses exposed to acute hypoxic stress, as provoked by uterine contractions during an oxytocin challenge test (OCT).(1) In fetuses with a normal cerebral circulation during basal conditions, signs of an acute hyperperfusion in both the arterial and venous cerebral vascular systems were demonstrated in response to acute hypoxic stress; (2) Fetuses with an already established BSF showed no further ability of brain-sparing during acute hypoxic stress; (3) In venous cerebral vessels of fetuses with established BSF, the flow responses to hypoxic stress were equivocal, indicating different reactions in areas drained by different veins, or a deranged physiological vascular response; (4) Blood flow changes occurred synchronized in the middle and anterior cerebral arteries when fetuses with an intact cerebral circulation were exposed to hypoxic stress; (5) When fetuses with an established BSF showed no further changes in the middle cerebral artery, no changes were found in the anterior cerebral artery either. 5. 5. Human innate lymphocytes in host defense, tissue function and reproduction

    Author : Benedikt Strunz; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The immune system is present in all tissues of the human body. In order to respond appropriately to infections, cells of the innate and adaptive immune system work in concert. READ MORE
