1. Dynamic Fetal and Placental Circulatory Changes during Uterine Contractions
Abstract : The best mode of delivery for fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and umbilical artery (UA) blood flow changes is not well elucidated. Uterine artery, fetal UA, middle cerebral artery (MCA), and venous blood flow changes during uterine contractions during an oxytocin challenge test (OCT) have not been observed systemically. 2. Ultrasound as predictor of perinatal outcome
Abstract : The aim of the work described in this thesis was to evaluate the value of ultrasound examinations of the amniotic fluid, umbilical cord and blood flow velocity waveform of the fetal and placental vessels as predictors of the perinatal outcome. In the first study, the amniotic fluid index (AFI) measured on admission to the labour ward was evaluated in low-risk pregnancies. READ MORE

3. Direct and endothelium-linked serotonergic control of vascular tone in human uterine and umbilical arteries
Abstract : The serotonergic vascular control was investigated by in vitro pharmacology in the human uterine and umbilical arteries. The localisation of immunoreactive (IR) neuropeptide Y (NPY) and the influence of NPY on the adrenergic vascular effects in the human uterine artery were also studied. READ MORE

4. Acupuncture in reproductive medicine. Applications in human assisted reproduction and aspects of clinical and experimental neuroendocrinology
Abstract : The use of acupuncture in the area of reproductive medicine is relatively new, and it has been rather poorly investigated in the past. When muscle afferents are stimulated by acupuncture in somatic segments related to the innervation of the ovaries and the uterus, functional changes occur in the neural substrate that may influence reproductive function and result in peripheral, segmental and central effects. 5. Postpartum Ultrasound
Abstract : This study was undertaken to investigate the involutional changes of the uterus and uterine cavity by ultrasound (US), gray-scale and Doppler, after normal delivery, and to compare with the corresponding findings from women with puerperal complications, particularly retained placental tissue (RPT). The overall design was exploratory and prospective, with the use of descriptive statistics for analysis. READ MORE
