  1. 6. Epitaxial Growth and Design of Nanowires and Complex Nanostructures

    Author : Kimberly Dick Thelander; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Natural science; III-V Semiconductor Materials; Fysik; Kondenserade materiens egenskaper:struktur; phase equilibria; crystallography; thermal and mechanical properties; Condensed matter:stucture; egenskaper termiska och mekaniska ; kristallografi; fasjämvikt; Naturvetenskap; Physics; Nanowires; Vapour Phase Epitaxy; Semiconductory physics; Halvledarfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the epitaxial growth of III-V semiconductor nanowires using Au seed particles, and the design of more complex three-dimensional branched structures from these wires. Growth was performed by metallorganic vapour phase epitaxy, in which precursor molecules for the semiconductor material components are introduced in a low-pressure vapour. READ MORE

  2. 7. Unraveling the importance of solid and adsorbed phase mercury speciation for methylmercury formation, evasion and bioaccumulation

    Author : Sofi Jonsson; Erik Björn; Ulf Skyllberg; Erik Lundberg; Per Persson; Robert Mason; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mercury; methylmercury; aquatic systems; estuary; Hg; MeHg; bioaccumulation; methylation; demethylation; evasion; sediment; water; terrestrial sources; atmospheric sources; climate change; eutrophication;

    Abstract : Monomethylmercury, MeHg, is formed under anoxic conditions in waters, sediments and soils and then bioaccumulated and biomagnified in aquatic food webs, negatively effecting both human and wildlife health. It is generally accepted that precipitation of mercury, Hg, and adsorption of Hg to e.g. READ MORE

  3. 8. A Study on Vanadium Extraction from Fe-V-P Melts Derived from Primary and Secondary Sources

    Author : Mikael Lindvall; Du Sichen; Christiaan Pistorius; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vanadium; V; V2O5; V2O3; ferrovanadium; vanadiferous; titaniferous; titanomagnetites; magnetite; spinel; slag; experimental; free; spinel; converter; LD; BOF; solubility; equilibrium; selective; oxidation; hibonite; karelianite; Al2O3; CaO; SiO2; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : Vanadium extraction methods were developed for iron-vanadium-phosphorus (Fe-V-P) melts derived from processing of V-bearing titanomagnetites and steel slags. Studies on phase relationships of V slags were carried out to provide important understanding of the extraction processes. READ MORE

  4. 9. Properties of Protein and Polymer Systems

    Author : Fredrik Carlsson; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; lysozyme; mica; surface; dimerization; precipitation; aggregate; cluster; complex; polyelectrolyte; protein; polymer;

    Abstract : Interactions of proteins with other proteins, with polymers and with surfaces are of great practical importance within for instance protein purification, drug delivery, and food technology. The aim of this work is to increase the understanding of protein-protein, protein-polyelectrolyte, and protein-surface interactions, particularly concerning the role of electrostatic interactions in these systems. 5. 10. Poly(ethylene-graft-ethylene oxide) Preparation and Properties in Polymer Blends

    Author : Åsa Halldén; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface modification; Graft copolymers; Polymer blends; Polyethylene; Polyethylene oxide; Polyamide; Polymer technology; biopolymers; Polymerteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the preparation, characterisation and properties of poly(ethylene-graft-ethylene oxide) (PE-PEO). The grafting reaction was carried out with the grafting onto method using the carboxylic acid groups of poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) (PEAA) as reactive sites in an esterification reaction with poly(ethylene oxide) mono-methyl ethers (MPEO) of varying molecular weights: 750, 2000 and 5000.
