  1. 1. Multiple stressors in rotifer communities: : Effects of predation, climate change, and brownification

    Author : Huan Zhang; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate change; community dynamic; brownification; heat wave; inducible defense; rotifer; plasticity; multiple stressors; Predation; prey;

    Abstract : Most organisms on Earth live in an environment where they are exposed to multiple pressures, including predation and climate change. In many aquatic ecosystems, organisms have to handle additional challenges such as brownification, co-occurring with climate warming. READ MORE

  2. 2. Spinal Cord Processing of Sensory Information: Spatial Organization and Adaptive Mechanisms

    Author : Anders Levinsson; Malmö Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; transplantatioin; pain; sensorimotor; plasticity; reflex; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Principles for sensorimotor transformation and plasticity in the spinal cord and functional repair in the root-avulsed spinal cord were studied. A comparative study confirmed that the nociceptive withdrawal reflex (NWR) system is composed of reflex modules, with each performing a finely tuned transformation of skin sensory input to activity in one muscle. 3. 3. The role of PKC in neuronal differentiation and in regulation of the actin cytoskeleton during neurite outgrowth

    Author : Ulrika Trollér; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Rho-family; actin cytoskeleton; neurite; differentiation; PKC; regulatory domain; Genetics;

    Abstract : Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine/threonine kinases subgrouped into classical (α, βI, βII, γ), novel (δ, ε, η, θ) and atypical (ζ, ι/λ) isoforms. PKC can be activated by phorbol esters, and prolonged treatment of neuroblastoma cells has been shown to induce neuronal differentiation with neurite outgrowth and increased expression of neuronal genes. 4. 4. The role of the MAP- and SAP- kinase pathways in the survival, proliferation and death of Schwann cells of the injured sciatic nerve

    Author : Lisa Mårtensson; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns alterations in signal transduction in Schwann cells as a response to nerve injury as well as their survival, proliferation and death. Enzymes and transcription factors belonging to the mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) and the stress activated protein kinase (SAPK) pathways were studied. READ MORE

  5. 5. Involvement of non-dopaminergic systems in L-DOPA-induced dyskinsia

    Author : Daniella Rylander; Basala gangliernas patofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s disease; Dyskinesia; L-DOPA; 6-OHDA rat model; MPTP monkey model; glutamate; serotonin; DA.; 5-HT;

    Abstract : Parkinson's disease and L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia (LID) does not merely involve the dopamine (DA) system but also include non-dopaminergic systems such as glutamate and serotonin (5-HT). An aberrant glutamate transmission at the corticostriatal synapse, has been linked to LID. READ MORE
