  1. 1. Uveal melanoma : epidemiological and clinical aspects

    Author : Louise Bergman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Melanoma; uveal; choroidal; epidemiology; population-based registry; incidence; survival; familial; ruthenium brachytherapy;

    Abstract : A major purpose with this thesis was to assess the incidence and mortality rates of uveal melanoma in Sweden during the period 1960 to 1998, using population-based registry data. In total, 2,995 patients (1,541 males and 1,454 females) were diagnosed with uveal melanoma. READ MORE

  2. 2. Uveal melanoma : cytogenetics, molecular biology and tumor immunology

    Author : Charlotta All-Ericsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Uveal melanoma; prognostic markers; treatment; CGH; chromosomal aberrations; HLA; IHC; Western blotting; IGF-1R; c-kit; STT571;

    Abstract : Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular malignancy. The metastatic spread is hematogenous and exclusively to the liver. Although eye-sparing treatments are used more frequently the tumor-related mortality in uveal melanoma is still 30-50%. Only 2% of the patients have detectable metastases at the time of diagnosis. 4. 4. Uveal melanoma and macular degeneration : molecular biology and potential therapeutic applications

    Author : Mario A Economou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Uveal melanoma; exudative AMD; IGF-1R; c-Met; prognostic markers; metastasis; oral treatment; VEGF;

    Abstract : Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular malignant tumor in adults with 30% to 50% of patients that ultimately succumb to metastatic disease, mainly to the liver. Although new diagnostic and therapeutic tools have been developed during the most recent years, only the eye conservation rate has been achieved, while the survival rate remains poor. READ MORE

  5. 5. Translational studies of metastatic melanoma in the era of immunotherapy - from humanized mouse models to clinical trials

    Author : Henrik Jespersen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metastatic melanoma; Uveal melanoma; Humanized mouse models; Immunotherapy; Chimeric antigen receptor T cells; PD-1 inhibition; Epigenetics; Histone deacetylase inhibition;

    Abstract : Immunotherapy with PD-1 inhibitors has transformed the treatment of met-astatic cutaneous mela- noma, and can lead to complete and durable responses in a proportion of patients. However, in around half of the patients, the treatment has little or no effect. READ MORE
