  1. 1. Vacuum insulation in buildings : Means to prolong service life

    Author : Thomas I. Thorsell; Gudni Jóhannesson; Christer Sjöström; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vacuum insulation; thermal bridge; serpentine edge; coated film; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : Vacuum insulation panels, VIPs, constitute a new insulation material, 6 to 8 times better than traditional insulation materials, which utilizes the positive influence vacuum has on the thermal properties of certain materials. A VIP is a composite with a flat core enclosed by an envelope preventing the core to fill with gas. READ MORE

  2. 2. Engineering Epitaxial Graphene for Quantum Metrology

    Author : Hans He; Chalmers University of Technology; []

    Abstract : Quantum resistance metrology deals both with the precise and accurate measurement of electrical resistance, by utilizing the quantum hall effect (QHE) in two-dimensional electron gases (2DEGs) such as those based on gallium arsenide (GaAs). Due to the unique properties of graphene, and specifically epitaxial graphene grown on silicon carbide (SiC/G), quantum Hall resistance (QHR) standards based on graphene perform better in a wider parameter space (temperature, current and magnetic field) than conventional semiconducting materials. 3. 3. Infrared spectroscopy studies of adsorption and photochemistry on TiO2 surfaces : From single crystals to nanostructured materials

    Author : Andreas Mattsson; Lars Österlund; Per-Anders Carlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Engineering Science with specialization in Solid State Physics; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : TiO2 based photocatalysis is a green nanotechnology that can be used for removal of pollutants from water and air, as well as making synthetic fuels from water and carbon dioxide. Said photocatalysis has received major research interests during the last decades. READ MORE

  4. 4. On Suction Box Dewatering Mechanisms

    Author : Peter Åslund; Bo Norman; Timoty Patterson; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Suction box; vacuum; water removal; compressibility; displacement; rewetting; laboratory equipment; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : In previous studies on suction box dewatering, three mechanisms were identified that determine the dry content of a web, viz. web compression, displacement of water by air and rewetting. READ MORE

  5. 5. Vacuum Dewatering of Cellulosic Materials : New insights into transport phenomena in the papermaking process

    Author : Björn Sjöstrand; Lars Nilsson; Christphe Barbier; Henrik Ullsten; Martin Hubbe; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Vacuum dewatering; numerical model; water removal; air penetration; papermaking; microfibrillated cellulose; dialcohol cellulose; strength additives; retention aids; drainage; water retention value; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Working towards sustainable development within the forest industry, the dewatering of pulp and paper must be fully understood along with the dewatering of other cellulose-based materials. Huge amounts of energy are used during paper manufacturing so there is a potential for making the processes more energy-efficient. READ MORE
