1. On Adhesion and Galling in Metal Forming
Abstract : Metal forming is widely used in the industry to produce cans, tubes, car chassis, rods, wires etc. Forming certain materials such as stainless steel, aluminium and titanium, is often difficult, and problems associated with transfer of work material to the tool material are frequent. 2. High Resolution Microanalysis of Creep Resistant 9-12% Chromium Steels
Abstract : This thesis deals with detailed studies of the microstructure of 9-12% chromium steels. Three alloys with improved creep resistance have been studied in different stages of heat treatment and after creep testing. Two of them were manufactured using PM/HIP and were of the type 10. 3. Theoretical and Experimental Studies on Early Transition Metal Nitrides for Thermoelectrics
Abstract : Thermoelectricity transforms temperature gradients across thermoelectric material into an external voltage through a phenomenon known as the Seebeck effect. This property has resulted in niche applications such as solid-state cooling for electronic and optoelectronic devices which exclude the need for a coolant or any moving parts and long-lasting, maintenance-free radioisotope thermoelectric generators used for deep-space exploration. 4. Nanocomposite films for corrosion protection
Abstract : This thesis describes technical and scientific aspects of new types of composite films/coatings for corrosion protection of carbon steel, composite films with nanometer thickness consisting of mussel adhesive protein (Mefp‐1) and ceria nanoparticles, and polymeric composite coatings with micrometre thickness consisting of conducting polymer and ceria nanoparticles in a UV‐curing polyester acrylate (PEA) resin. The influence of microstructure on corrosion behaviour was studied for a Fe‐Cr‐V‐N alloy containing micro‐sized nitrides with different chemical composition spread in martensitic alloy matrix. 5. CVD growth of SiC for high-power and high-frequency applications
Abstract : Silicon Carbide (SiC) is a wide bandgap semiconductor that has attracted a lot of interest for electronic applications due to its high thermal conductivity, high saturation electron drift velocity and high critical electric field strength. In recent years commercial SiC devices have started to make their way into high and medium voltage applications. READ MORE
