11. Utilization of waste materials for extraction of strategic metals : a biogeochemical approach
Abstract : Worldwide the modern society produces vast amounts of waste materials containing strategic and valuable metals. Some of them are of substantial economic or environmental significance if controlled recovery of metals can be performed or if uncontrolled release to the environment occurs. READ MORE

12. Vanadate and Peroxovanadate Complexes of Biomedical Relevance : A speciation approach with focus on diabetes
Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is one of the most threatening epidemics of modern times with rapidly increasing incidence. Vanadium and peroxovanadium compounds have been shown to exert insulin–like actions and, in contrast to insulin, are orally applicable. However, problems with side–effects and toxicity remain. 13. Resonant Soft X-Ray Emission Spectroscopy of Vanadium Oxides and Related Compounds
Abstract : This thesis addresses the electronic structure of vanadium and copper oxides using soft X-ray absorption (SXA) spectroscopy and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) at high brightness synchrotron radiation sources. In RIXS incident photons, tuned to the energy of specific absorption resonances, are inelastically scattered leaving behind a low energy valence excitation in the system studied. READ MORE

14. Vanadium in soils : chemistry and ecotoxicity
Abstract : Vanadium is a redox-sensitive metal that is released to soils by weathering and anthropogenic emissions. Swedish metallurgical slags are naturally high in vanadium and used as soil amendments and in road materials. However, understanding of vanadium chemistry and bioavailability in soils is limited. 15. Investigation of vanadium-containing oxide systems : CALPHAD and experiments
Abstract : Fundamental studies on thermodynamic properties of vanadium-containing oxides systems are essential to understand practical vanadium metallurgical process. The CALPHAD technique is here applied to the thermodynamic modelling of the V-O, Ca-V-O and Ti-V-O systems. The compound energy formalism is used for all the solution phases. READ MORE
