  1. 1. Undrained shear strength in clay slopes - Influence of stress conditions. A model and field test study

    Author : Hjördis Löfroth; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; preconsolidation pressure; piezocone test; slope; model test; consolidation; horizontal stress; clay; undrained shear strength; direct simple shear test; field vane test; field test;

    Abstract : To counteract natural hazards such as landslides, current methods for evaluation of soil properties as a mean for determining the safety level of natural slopes need to be refined. The empirical relationships used for estimation of the undrained shear strength from piezocone and field vane test are based on the stress conditions valid for horizontal ground and normally consolidated or slightly overconsolidated soil. 2. 2. Vane applications and vane induced flow

    Author : Fredrick Marelius; KTH; []
    Keywords : vane; erosion; shore protection; vortex; scour; ;

    Abstract : Vanes are essentially small aspect ratio foils used forguiding sediment, by means of affecting the flow features. Theyare usually placed on the river bed and aligned with an angleof attack to the approach flow, thereby inducing a secondaryflow component that is used for guiding sediment in a desireddirection. 3. 3. Turbine Outlet Guide Vane Flows

    Author : Johan Hjärne; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Spalart-Allmaras model; k-ω SST model; linear cascade; secondary flows; turbine exhaust casing; RSM; k-ε realizable model; turbine rear frame; engine mount bump; tail bearing housing; Outlet guide vane;

    Abstract : New design goals on modern jet engines often leads to more highly loaded turbines with fewer stages in order to save weight and cost. This gives higher swirl angles into the outlet guide vane (OGV), implying a more difficult aerodynamic design. READ MORE

  4. 4. Numerical and Experimental Investigations of Design Parameters Defining Gas Turbine Nozzle Guide Vane Endwall Heat Transfer

    Author : Frank G. Rubensdörffer; Torsten Fransson; Albin Bölcs; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbomachinery; secondary flow; endwall heat transfer; linear cascade test facility; CFD; RANS; V2F turbulence model; combustion chamber nozzle guide vane interface; heat shield; cavity; cooling air; Mechanical energy engineering; Mekanisk energiteknik;

    Abstract : The primary requirements for a modern industrial gas turbine consist of a continuous trend of an increasing efficiency combined with very low emissions in a robust, cost-effective manner. To fulfil these tasks a high turbine inlet temperature together with advanced dry low NOX combustion chambers are employed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Aerothermal Experimental Investigation of LPT-OGVs

    Author : Borja Rojo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Experimental; Turbine Rear Structure; Aerodynamics; Wind Tunnel; CFD; Gas Turbine; Engine Exit Structure; Outlet Guide Vane; Heat transfer.; Turbine Exhaust Case; Turbine Rear Frame; Exit Guide Vane;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the design, commissioning, and experimental data of a newly built turbine facility at Chalmers University of Technology for investigating the ow in the engine exit structure (EES). The EES is the structure located downstream of the lowpressure turbine (LPT) in a jet engine. READ MORE
