  1. 11. Interindividual Variability of Drug Transport Proteins : Focus on Intestinal Pgp (ABCB1) and BCRP (ABCG2)

    Author : Gunilla Englund; Per Artursson; Håkan Melhus; Andreas Kindmark; Joseph W Polli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; membrane transport proteins; ATP-Binding Cassette Transporters; P-glycoprotein; Breast Cancer Resistance Protein; Interindividual variability; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : The appearance of adverse drug reactions is a common reason for hospitalization in Western countries. Research on underlying biological mechanisms for interindividual variability in drug response aims to better identify patients with exceptional genetic traits, disease conditions or risk of drug-drug interactions and thereby help to prevent adverse drug reactions. 2. 12. Solar Variability Assessment and Grid Integration : Methodology Development and Case Studies

    Author : David Lingfors; Joakim Widén; Uwe Zimmermann; Eva Wäckelgård; Tobias Boström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Solar variability; Photovoltaics; Grid integration; GIS; Distributed generation; Engineering Science; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : During the 21st century there has been a tremendous increase in grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) capacity globally, due to falling prices and introduction of economic incentives. PV systems are in most cases small-scale, installed on residential dwellings, which means that the power production is widely distributed and close to the end-user of electricity. READ MORE

  3. 13. Perception and control of upper limb movement: Insights gained by analysis of sensory and motor variability

    Author : Dmitry Domkin; Mats Djupsjöbacka; John Jeka; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Chronic neck-shoulder pain is associated with impairments of proprioception and motor control. Thus, assessment of proprioceptive and motor function may be powerful tools both for research and clinical practice. READ MORE

  4. 14. The impact of wind power variability on the least-cost dispatch of units in the electricity generation system

    Author : Lisa Göransson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wind power; intermittency; wind-thermal system; variability; cycling costs; electricity generation system; dispatch modeling; variation management;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the dynamics of electricity generation systems that involve high levels of wind power. Methods to account for wind power variability in electricity-dispatch models are explored, and the impact of wind power variability on the optimal output of the generation units, so as to meet the system load with the lowest possible cost (economic dispatch), is analyzed for several systems, for both regional and European cases. 5. 15. Antibodies for better or worse or Antibody variability in an egg-laying mammal and a novel strategy in the treatment of allergies

    Author : Jeannette Johansson; Kjell-Olov Grönvik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Antibody; variability; platypus; allergy; vaccine; adjuvant; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Molecular Immunology; molekylär immunologi;

    Abstract : Antibodies are a central part of the immune defense system, and a large variability in their specificity is needed in order to be able to react against all possible foreign substances we may encounter during our lives. In this thesis, results are presented from investigations into how an egg-laying mammal, the Australian duck-billed platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) creates antibody variability. READ MORE
