  1. 1. Transport Coefficients during Drying of Solids containing Multicomponent Mixtures

    Author : Rafael Gamero; Joaquín Martínez; Evangelos Tsotsas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; capillary; conduction; convection; diffusion; evaporation; heat transfer; hydraulic conductivity; liquid film; liquid transport; mass transfer; Maxwell-Stefan diffusion coefficients; molar fluxes; phase equilibrium; temperature gradient; ternary mixture; thermodynamic factors; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : This study investigated the transport coefficients involved in mass and heat transfer during the drying of a porous solid partially saturated with multicomponent mixtures.  It included the coefficients governing liquid transport through the solid, the matrix of multicomponent diffusion coefficients in the liquid phase, and the effective thermal conductivity. 2. 2. Moisture transport processes in Scots pine - Anomalous capillary suction. Nonisothermal diffusion

    Author : Ingemar Segerholm; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; moisture transport coefficients; nonisothermal; anomalous capillary suction; flux equation; phenomenological approach; wood;

    Abstract : Moisture transport processes in wood have become increasingly important with the growing use of wood as construction material. This thesis deals with two key processes: capillary suction and nonisothermal diffusion. In the study on capillary suction, several methods were used. READ MORE

  3. 3. Exhaust Heat Utilisation and Losses in Internal Combustion Engines with Focus on the Gas Exchange System

    Author : Habib Aghaali; Hans-Erik Ångström; Carlos Guardiola; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbocharger; heat transfer; heat loss; exhaust heat utilisation; waste heat recovery; turbocompound; divided exhaust period; internal combustion engine; gas exchange; pumping loss; variable valve timing; WHR; DEP; Turbo; värmeöverföring; värmeförluster; avgasvärme utnyttjande; förluster vid värmeåtervinning; turbocompound; delad avgasperiod; förbränningsmotor; gasväxling; pumpningsförlust; variabla ventiltider; WHR; DEP; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Exhaust gas energy recovery should be considered in improving fuel economy of internal combustion engines. A large portion of fuel energy is wasted through the exhaust of internal combustion engines. Turbocharger and turbocompound can, however, recover part of this wasted heat. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the Analysis of Energy Efficient Aircraft Engines

    Author : Oskar Thulin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Performance modelling; Aero engine; Turbofan; Aircraft engine; Installed propulsion; Ultra high bypass ratio; Exergy analysis; Engine weight estimate; Variable area fan nozzle; Multiple pivoting flaps; Translating cowls;

    Abstract : Aero engine performance analysis is highly multidimensional using various measures of component performance such as turbomachinery and mechanical efficiencies, and pressure loss coefficients. Using conventional performance analysis, relying on only the laws of thermodynamics, it is possible to understand how the performance parameters affect the component performance, but it is difficult to directly compare the magnitude of various loss sources. 5. 5. Essays on the Infestation of Lake Victoria by the Water Hyacinth

    Author : Eseza Kateregga; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Water hyacinth; water hyacinth indicators; water hyacinth induced catchability coefficients; intrinsic growth rates for stocks; carrying capacity; elasticity of catch with respect to fishing effort; electricity outage costs.;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four essays that seek to estimate the abundance of the water hyacinth in Lake Victoria during the 1990s and analyse its effects on the catchability of fish, estimate the elasticities of catch with respect to the various components of effort in lake Victoria fisheries, and estimate the welfare costs of electricity outages. In the first essay, data on the extent of water hyacinth mat coverage collected from a number of reports and surveys is used to fit time trend water hyacinth mats growth curves for the three sections of Lake Victoria.
