Abstract : Intercooling has the potential to provide a shortcut to the next generation aero engines with higher bypass ratio (BPR), higher overall pressure ratio (OPR) and higher turbine inlet temperature (TIT) by lowering the high pressure compressor (HPC) delivery temperature. To be able to establish a systematic understanding of aero engine intercooling, the heat transfer and pressure loss characteristics of a given intercooler architecture need to be known in the parameter range anticipated for the engine optimization. Abstract : The strive towards cleaner and more efficient combustion engines, driven by legislation and cost, introduces new configurations, as exhaust gas recirculation, turbocharging, and variable valve timing, to name a few. Beside all the positive effects on the emissions and fuel consumption, they all affect the air-charge system, which increases the cross-couplings within the air-path control, making it an even more complex system to control. Abstract : The Baltic Sea in northern Europe is a brackish water body where eutrophication is considered a serious problem, partly as a result of high nitrogen load from rivers.
