  1. 1. Space-Time Prediction of Ocean Winds

    Author : Anders Malmberg; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistics; operations research; image warping; thin-plate splines.; near-surface ocean winds; variogram parameters; Space-time Kalman filtering; real-time assimilation; residual wind speed; actuarial mathematics; programming; Statistik; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is inspired by an experiment in which a vessel, laying a submarine cable, was provided with forecasts overlaid with satellite observations of significant wave height. During the operation, the vessel was close to an adverse weather area and the personnel on board could confirm that the forecast was not as close to the "ground truth" as the satellite observation was. 2. 2. Estimations of Hydrogeological Properties in Vulnerability and Risk Assessments

    Author : Lars Rosen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; groundwater; Markov; conceptual model; Bayes; risk; vulnerability;

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis was to evaluate and develop approaches for hydrogeological vulnerability and risk assessments, starting with scant data and updating the results as new information becomes available. This work was performed within three separate projects between 1989 and 1995. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterisation and Modeling of Discontinuous Rock Mass: Geostatistical Interpretation of Seismic Response to Fracture Occurrence, Discrete Fracture Network Modeling and Stability Predictions for Underground Excavations

    Author : Peter Starzec; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; keyblock predictions; induced seismicity; stochastic fracture network; geostatistics;

    Abstract : Geometric and mechanical characterisation of rock discontinuities is an essential constituent in deriving a reliable assessment of overall properties of crystalline rock mass. The knowledge about the occurrence, size, geometry pattern and intensity of joints/fractures is necessary to predict the performance of fractured rock as a fractured reservoir, or an underground transport and storage facility. 4. 4. Reliability-based Assessment of Concrete Dam Stability

    Author : Marie Westberg; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; assessment; stability; concrete dam; structural reliability analysis; probability; uplift; system reliability;

    Abstract : Risk management is increasingly used in dam safety and includes risk analysis, risk evaluation and risk reduction. Structural Reliability Analysis (SRA) is a probabilistic methodology that may be used in the risk assessment process. READ MORE
