11. Interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and vegetation in the Fennoscandian tundra
Abstract : I have, in this thesis, studied the interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and tundra vegetation, on islands in, and mainland sites close to the lake Iešjávri, in northern Norway. As isolated islands are virtually free of predation, I have been able to compare plant-herbivore interactions in the presence and absence of predators. READ MORE

12. A study of the molecular pathways of wood formation using peptide mass spectrometry
Abstract : Wood consists essentially of secondary plant cell walls, composed of a cellulose and hemicellulose network impregnated with lignin. It is formed via the development of derivatives of a thin layer of cells (the vascular cambium) into xylem cells through cell division, expansion, secondary wall formation, lignification and, finally, programmed cell death. 13. Plant community assembly during succession from arable fields to semi-natural grassland
Abstract : Large areas of grazed, species rich semi-natural grassland were lost in Europe during the last two centuries and as a consequence led to decreases in grassland specialist species. Therefore, today the “restoration” of grassland on previously arable fields is recommended for the protection of grassland specialists. READ MORE

14. Cellular Control and Physiological Importance of Vascular Lignification
Abstract : Lignin is indispensable for vascular plants. It allows their cells to coalesce into gravity-defying giants, hardens them to withstand pressures and predators, and waterproofs them to allow the flow of water only where it is advantageous. READ MORE

15. The effect of stress on plant vascular development and regeneration
Abstract : Plants are susceptible to stress due to their lifestyle and as such have evolved multiple adaptive strategies to ensure survival. One of the most remarkable abilities in plants is their competence to regenerate tissues. Particularly, any damage to vascular tissues is healed quickly to continue survival. READ MORE
