  1. 21. Alternative NAD(P)H dehydrogenases in plant mitochondria - localisation, catalytic functions and physiological roles

    Author : Agnieszka Michalecka; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Kärlväxters fysiologi; Physiology of vascular plants; NAD P H dehydrogenase; light-dependence; electron transport chain; alamethicin; alternative oxidase;

    Abstract : In addition to complex I, the plant mitochondrial electron transport chain possesses several alternative NAD(P)H dehydrogenases, not present in animals. These enzymes allow nonenergy-conserving electron transfer from cytoplasmic and matrix NAD(P)H to ubiquinone. READ MORE

  2. 22. The plant respiratory chain: Redox responses and catalytic definition of alternative pathways

    Author : Daniela Geisler; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; enzymology; Proteins; Kärlväxters fysiologi; Physiology of vascular plants; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry; respiratory chain; plant mitochondria; nitrogen; NADPH dehydrogenase; NADH dehydrogenase; alternative oxidase; calcium; Proteiner; enzymologi; Bioenergetics; Bioenergetik; Lipids; steroids; membranes; Lipider; steroider; mebran;

    Abstract : The respiratory chain of plants contains both proton-pumping enzymes that conserve energy and non-proton-pumping alternative enzymes that bypass the sites of energy conservation. In addition to the proton-pumping complex I, plant mitochondria contain alternative type II NAD(P)H dehydrogenases, which allow oxidation of NADH and NADPH from the matrix and the cytosol. READ MORE

  3. 23. Nutrient use strategies of plants of various life-forms in a subarctic environment : Nutrient conservation as an adaption to infertile habitats

    Author : Rolf Lutz Eckstein; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Mean residence time; Nutrient productivity; Nutrient use efficiency; Plant strategies; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Abstract : Plant performance in relation to limiting nutrients was analysed using the concept of nutrient use efficiency (NUE). NUE can be decomposed into (1) the nutrient productivity (aNP) and (2) the mean residence time (MRT). READ MORE

  4. 24. Early land plant spores from the Paleozoic of Sweden – taxonomy, stratigraphy and paleoenvironments

    Author : Kristina Mehlqvist; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spores; early land plants; taxonomy; stratigraphy; biostratigraphy; Silurian;

    Abstract : The Silurian through earliest Devonian, between ca 444 and 412 million years ago, was characterized by significant changes in global climate and environment. At that time, plants and animals had begun to expand the colonization of previous relatively desolate terrestrial landscape. READ MORE

  5. 25. Aspects of heterogeneity : effects of clear-cutting and post-harvest extraction of bioenergy on plants in boreal forests

    Author : Marcus Åström; Christer Nilsson; Katherine Frego; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : aspect; clear-cutting; disturbance; habitat quality; liverworts; logging residues; mosses; resilience; slash; slope; topography;

    Abstract : Abstract. The objectives of this thesis are to evaluate (1) the influence of slope aspect on boreal plant responses to clear-cutting and (2) the effects of post-harvest extraction of bioenergy (logging residues or slash) on plant composition, richness and performance in clear-cuts.
