  1. 1. Lipids and Endothelium-Dependent Vasodilation

    Author : Peter Steer; Lars Lind; Per Tornvall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Atherosclerosis; endothelium; vasodilation; nitric oxide; fatty acid; meal; diet; lipoprotein; cyclooxygenase; diclophenac; L-arginine; LDL; human; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; Internal Medicine; Internmedicin;

    Abstract : Impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilation (EDV) is associated with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease as well as several of its risk factors. The aim of the present thesis was to investigate how lipids influence EDV in the vascular bed of the human forearm. READ MORE

  2. 2. Microvascular inflammatory response in the skin

    Author : Vladimir Evilevitch; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; Physiology; Fysiologi; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi; medical instrumentation; tomography; radiology; Clinical physics; sodium nitroprusside; terbutaline; anandamide; TRPV1; skin prick test; vanilloid receptor; skin microcirculation; laser Doppler imaging; Plasma exudation; vasodilatation;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the microvascular inflammatory response in the skin. The microvascular response includes vasodilatation and plasma exudation. In the first three studies, the combined response was measured in guinea pig skin with a technique based on detection of radiolabelled protein. READ MORE

  3. 3. Vascular Effects of P2 Receptors. Changes in Congestive Heart Failure

    Author : Malin Malmsjö; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; congestive heart failure; pyrimidine; purine; P2 receptor; vasodilatation; vasoconstriction; hyperpolarisation; EDHF; NO; Vascular; endothelium; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : Extracellular nucleotides induce dilatation and constriction of blood vessels by activation of P2 receptors. In this thesis the vasomotor effects of P2 receptor activation were studied in the rat mesenteric artery, and their changes in congestive heart failure (CHF) were evaluated using in vitro pharmacology, electrophysiology and competitive RT-PCR. 4. 4. Neuropeptide Y - aspects of vasomotorresponses and receptor characterization

    Author : Torun Nilsson-Bergdahl; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vasoconstriction; RT-PCR; receptor characterization; potentiation; NPY Y1 receptor; NPY; mitogenesis; hypertension; human arteries; forearm blood flow; cell culture; antisense oligodeoxynucleotides; BIBP3226; vasodilatation.; Physiology; Fysiologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Abstract The aims of the present thesis were to examine neuropeptide Y (NPY) responses in different human and guinea pig vascular beds and in cultured human vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) and to characterize, with different NPY agonists and the specific NPY Y1 receptor antagonist (BIBP3226), the NPY receptors involved. NPY-induced strong and potent contractions in human cerebral and subcutaneous arteries and in guinea pig basilar arteries. READ MORE

  5. 5. Laser Doppler Perfusion Monitoring and Imaging especially as regards testing for sympathetic nerve function

    Author : Carolin Freccero; Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; wavelength; sympathetic vasodilatation; sympathetic vasoconstriction; sympathetic nerve function; parasympathetic nerve function; laser Doppler perfusion imaging; laser Doppler perfusion monitoring; finger skin blood flow; fibre separation; contralateral cooling; Concentration; Fysiologi; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Diagnostik; Diagnostics;

    Abstract : The operating principle of all laser Doppler methods is based on the fact that incident photons shift in wavelength when interacting with moving blood cells passing through the microvascular network. After photodetection and further signal processing, the recorded parameter can be considered an arbitrary measure of tissue blood flow, and this is referred to as ?perfusion?. READ MORE
