  1. 6. Wetlands as a means to reduce the environmental impact of mine drainage waters

    Author : Åsa Sjöblom; Bert Allard; Karsten Håkansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lakvatten; våtmarker; vattenrening; miljö; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Abstract : In many mining regions of the world, pollution of surface water and groundwater by drainage water originating from mines aiming waste poses either a serious threat to the environment, or a severe environmental problem. During the last two and a half decades, treatment of mine drainage water in constructed and natural wetlands has emerged as an alternative to more conventional methods to handle the problem. Abstract : The Swedish pulp and paper industry is the third largest exporter of pulp and paper products worldwide. It is a highly energy-demanding and water-utilising industry, which generates large volumes of wastewater rich in organic material. READ MORE

  3. 8. Microbiological analysis of municipal wastewater treating photobioreactors

    Author : Ivo Krustok; Monica Odlare; Emma Nehrenheim; Jaak Truu; Raul Muñoz; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; photobioreactors; wastewater treatment; microalgae; microbiology; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Microalgae reactors, commonly known as photobioreactors, have become increasingly popular as an alternative for wastewater treatment. These systems reduce pollutants and remove nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous compounds from wastewater utilizing microalgae and bacteria. READ MORE

  4. 9. Indigenous microalgae-activated sludge cultivation system for wastewater treatment

    Abstract : In recent years, high arsenic (As) levels of about 300 µg/L have been reported around the gold mining areas of Geita and Mara regions within the Lake Victoria basin (LVB) in Tanzania. During a sampling campaign at Geita and Mara, the groundwater and surface water samples revealed the presence of high As concentrations as well as Fe and sulfide. READ MORE
