1. High Frequency Model of Electrified Railway Propulsion System for EMC Analysis
Abstract : A model of the electrified railway propulsion system working in a wide frequency range is studied in this thesis. The high frequency modeling is the first stage to study and predict the Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) problems in the electrified railway propulsion system, which are safety and reliability issues of high concern. 2. Least squares rigid body fitting of point-sets with unknown correspondences
Abstract : The problem addressed here is: given points u_1,...,u_n and v_1,. READ MORE

3. Vector Representations of Idioms in Data-Driven Chatbots for Robust Assistance
Abstract : This thesis presents resources capable of enhancing solutions of some Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks, demonstrates the learning of abstractions by deep models through cross-lingual transferability, and shows how deep learning models trained on idioms can enhance open-domain conversational systems. The challenges of open-domain conversational systems are many and include bland repetitive utterances, lack of utterance diversity, lack of training data for low-resource languages, shallow world-knowledge and non-empathetic responses, among others. 4. Metamodel-Based Multidisciplinary Design Optimization of Automotive Structures
Abstract : Multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) can be used in computer aided engineering (CAE) to efficiently improve and balance performance of automotive structures. However, large-scale MDO is not yet generally integrated within automotive product development due to several challenges, of which excessive computing times is the most important one. READ MORE

5. Estimation Using Low Rank Signal Models
Abstract : Designing estimators based on low rank signal models is a common practice in signal processing. Some of these estimators are designed to use a single low rank snapshot vector, while others employ multiple snapshots. This dissertation deals with both these cases in different contexts. READ MORE
