1. Geophysical Applications of Vegetation Modeling
Abstract : This thesis describes the development and selected applications of a global vegetation model, BIOME4. The model is applied to problems in high-latitude vegetation distribution and climate, trace gas production, and isotope biogeochemistry. READ MORE

2. Understanding Weather effects on, in, and from large Herbivore Population Dynamics
Abstract : Large herbivores are monitored for various reasons in many areas around the world. Data from such monitoring can be of varying degree of detail and extent. Several studies have shown that we need extensive amounts of data with a high degree of detail to be able to understand anything from it. READ MORE

3. On the Late Saalian glaciation : A climate modeling study
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the glaciation of the Late Saalian period (160 -140 ka) over Eurasia. The Quaternary Environment of the Eurasian North (QUEEN) project determined that during this period, the Eurasian ice sheet was substantially larger than during the entire Weichselian cycle and especially that of the Last Glacial Maximum (21 ka, LGM). 4. Modeling Carbon and Water Fluxes in European Terrestrial Ecosystems
Abstract : The controlling mechanisms and feedbacks between climate, the carbon and water cycling and vegetation in European ecosystems have attracted much attention in recent years but they are still not sufficiently understood. A better understanding of them is necessary to predict how they will be affected by climate change. READ MORE

5. Analyzing Vegetation Trends with Sensor Data from Earth Observation Satellites
Abstract : Abstract This thesis aims to advance the analysis of nonlinear trends in time series of vegetation data from Earth observation satellite sensors. This is accomplished by developing fast, efficient methods suitable for large volumes of data. READ MORE
