  1. 11. The vegetation of kettle-holes in central Poland

    Author : Ewa Kaźmierczak; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Våtmarker; Växtsamhällen; Växtgeografi - Östeuropa;

    Abstract : The study aimed at an investigation of the vegetation of kettle-holes in the agricultural landscape of the Ziemia Chelminska region in northern central Poland. Most of these kettle-holes have been influenced strongly by human activities. READ MORE

  2. 12. Vegetation Observation in the Big Data Era : Sentinel-2 data for mapping the seasonality of land vegetation

    Author : Zhanzhang Cai; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sentinel-2; Times-series analysis; Phenology; GPP;

    Abstract : Using satellite remote sensing data for observing vegetation seasonality is an important approach to estimate phenology and carbon uptake of land vegetation. The successful launch of Sentinel-2B in 2017 initiated full operation of the Sentinel-2 twin satellites, and they now provide 10 - 60 m spatial resolution satellite data at 5 days temporal resolution worldwide, releasing approximately 3. 3. 13. Automating condition monitoring of vegetation on railway trackbeds and embankments

    Author : Roger G. Nyberg; Narendra K. Gupta; Mark S. Dougherty; Siril Yella; David J. Murray-Smith; Alistair Armitage; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Complex Systems – Microdata Analysis; Komplexa system - mikrodataanalys;

    Abstract : Vegetation growing on railway trackbeds and embankments present potential problems. The presence of vegetation threatens the safety of personnel inspecting the railway infrastructure. In addition vegetation growth clogs the ballast and results in inadequate track drainage which in turn could lead to the collapse of the railway embankment. READ MORE

  4. 14. Small biotopes in agricultural landscapes: importance for vascular plants and effects of management

    Author : Therese Irminger Street; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Small biotopes; incidental habitat; vascular plants; woody vegetation; grassland species; resource provisioning; species richness; habitat specificity; non-crop habitat; landscape complexity; heterogeneity; local management; agri-environment scheme;

    Abstract : As a consequence of agricultural intensification, large areas of non-crop habitat have been lost and farmland biodiversity has declined. Previous studies have shown that the extent of non-crop habitat influences farmland biodiversity, but the relative importance of different habitat types is less well known and the contribution of small incidental habitats to landscape-scale species richness is not fully understood. 5. 15. Towards an integrated ecology through mechanistic modelling of ecosystem structure and functioning

    Author : Thomas Hickler; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; geomorphology; Physical geography; integrated ecology; plant hydraulic architecture; climate change; CO2 fertilisation effect; biogeography; biogeochemistry; vegetation dynamics; ecosystem modelling;

    Abstract : Plant physiology, population dynamics and the structure and functioning of ecosystems are closely interrelated. However, these processes are often investigated independently within different subdisciplines of ecology. READ MORE
