  1. 1. Development of Separation Phenomena on a Passenger Car

    Author : Sabine Bonitz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; complex flows; vortex formation; vehicle aerodynamics; flow separation; limiting streamlines; crossflow separation;

    Abstract : The general shape of a vehicle influences its aerodynamic performance through separation phenomena and flow structure development. Since these flow characteristics have a direct influence on the energy efficiency, safety and comfort, it is essential to study their formation and evolution into the freestream. READ MORE

  2. 2. Unsteady Numerical Simulations and Reduced-Order Modelling of Flows around Vehicles

    Author : Jan Östh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Reduced-Order Modelling; Numerical Simulations; Large Eddy Simulation; Vehicle Aerodynamics;

    Abstract : In this thesis several simulations have been carried out aimed at improving the knowledge of vehicle aerodynamics and improving the flow around vehicles with respect to theaerodynamic drag. Five flows around different simplified vehicle models have been considered in five appended publications. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on Diesel sprays under non-reacting and reacting conditions

    Author : Chengjun Du; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; diffusion flame; OH radical; ethanol; spray vaporization; soot formation; cavitation; turbulent; OH* chemiluminescence; laser extinction; LAS; Diesel sprays;

    Abstract : Methods for reducing engine-out emissions are urgently needed to mitigate climate change and air pollution. In diesel engines, the quality of fuel-air mixing and the subsequent combustion process strongly affect fuel efficiency and engine-out emissions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Advances in vortical flow prediction methods for design of delta-winged aircraft

    Author : Simone Crippa; Arthur Rizzi; James Luckring; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; delta wing; slender wing; aircraft; vortex; VFE-2; CAWAPI; HISAC; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis covers the field of vortex-flow dominated external aerodynamics. As part of the contribution to the AVT-113 task group it was possible to prove the feasibility of high Reynolds number CFD computations to resolve and thus better understand the peculiar dual vortex system encountered on the VFE-2 blunt leading edge delta wing at low to moderate incidences. 5. 5. Accurate physical and numerical modeling of complex vortex phenomena over delta wings

    Author : Simone Crippa; Arthur Rizzi; Stefan Wallin; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; computational fluid dynamics; CFD; vortical flow; delta wing; aerodynamics; flow physics; steady; unsteady; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : With this contribution to the AVT-113/VFE-2 task group it was possible to prove the feasibility of high Reynolds number CFD computations to resolve and thus better understand the peculiar dual vortex system encountered on the VFE-2 blunt leading edge delta wing. Initial investigations into this phenomenon seemed to undermine the hypothesis, that the formation of the inner vortex system relies on the laminar state of the boundary layer at separation onset.
