  1. 6. Hyaluronan and the receptor CD 44 in the heart and vessels : a study in normal and pathological conditions

    Author : Martin Hellström; Anna Engström-Laurent; Bengt Johansson; Lena Jonasson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : hyaluronan; CD44; heart; Rat; cardiac hypertrophy; artery; vein; human; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Tissues are not solely composed of cells. The extracellular matrix is important for the cell well-being and cell-cell communication. The glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan (HYA) is a widely distributed extracellular matrix (ECM) component. READ MORE

  2. 7. On cardiovascular responses to hypovolemic circulatory stress. An experimental study in man

    Author : Henrik Olsen; Helsingborg Kliniska Vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; secreting systems; Endocrinology; vein.; type 1 diabetes; skeletal muscle; LBNP; compliance; CFC; Ageing; baroreceptor; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : Aged subjects have a decreased tolerance to hypovolemia, which could contribute to their increased cardiovascular morbidity. One possible etiological factor might be an age-related reduction in the efficiency of the baroreceptor reflex axis. READ MORE

  3. 8. Anaesthetics and the blood vessel wall. Actions of propofol and sevoflurane on sympathetic and endothelial control of smooth muscle function

    Author : Karin Thorlacius; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; vein.; artery; endothelium; sympathetic nervous system; inhalation agent sevoflurane; Anaesthesia; intravenous propofol;

    Abstract : The anaesthetics we use today dose-dependently decrease the mean arterial pressure partly due to direct or indirect effects on the blood vessels. In the present thesis human omental arteries and veins and rat femoral arteries were investigated in vitro concerning the effects of the intravenous anaesthetic propofol and the volatile anaesthetic sevoflurane on the function of the perivascular sympathetic nerves and the endothelial cells. 4. 9. Interventions for portal hypertension in patients with portal vein occlusion and possible effects of a stent-graft on hepatic circulation

    Author : Inger Keussen; Malmö Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; recanalization; TIPS; hepatic vein occlusion; children; Key words: portal vein occlusion; scintigraphy; stent; portal hypertension;

    Abstract : Symptomatic portal hypertension (PH), is often treated by transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS). Patients with PH, caused by prehepatic portal vein occlusion, require recanalization with stent or stent-graft often followed by additional TIPS. READ MORE

  5. 10. Retinal Vein Occlusion A clinical study of electrophysiology, certain prognostic factors and treatment

    Author : Charlotte Lindberg; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi; multifocal electroretinography vitrectomy; electroretinography; factor V Leiden; retinal vein occlusion; prognostic factors;

    Abstract : The influence of the factor V Leiden mutation on the development of neovascular complications in central retinal vein occlusion was studied. The presence of the mutation was found to enhance the risk of developing neovascular complications almost threefold compared to in patients without the mutation. READ MORE
